Oh Yeah... Been there....We ran across the lake from Michigan City to Chicago in 1980. Couldn't see land for a long time, just the compass.

Seems as though when we entered the locks unto Chicago River we dropped maybe 15-20 feet below the lake level.

The water was flowing from the lake into the river through the locks. The river was Amazingly Pristine. Boating in Downtown Chicago checking out the sky scapers, theaters, Marshal Field's etc. was fascinating on absolutley pure blue-green water.

As we traveled down river the water became increasing cloudy from run off. The Chicago river flows into the Illinois River then Mississippi. The water direction flow of the Chicago River was reversed somehow at some point from what I recall. Never heard the details of that job.

Fell asleep sun bathing naked on the rear bench on the way back to MC with my wife at the helm. My wife woke me up between two fishing boats while entering the Michigan City piers.

I swear, after 30 years of marriage, I have Never seen my wife laugh so damn hard in her life as when she woke me up that afternoon.
