You guys were getting 80 plus with the "stock" HP500?

Gordo 01-03-2011 10:51 AM

Best speed in legal Factory 1 setup was 83.1
We could run 80 pretty much anytime with fuel at half-tank or less. Boat loaded with people, coolers, full of fuel, hot humid day, hot water, we could still bank on 77

My Addiction 01-03-2011 10:18 PM

Wow. What prop did you run?

Gordo 01-04-2011 10:21 AM

Our rough water setup was a 26 Hydromotive q-4.
Our Shootout/flat water prop was a labbed 28 bravo 4blade

.

You are right on. I checked it with a 4 foot level, starting at the transom, after about 45 inches the hull starts to go up. Its maybe 1/8" to 1/4" inch at the end of the level. But those last 45 or so inches are straight and flat. Does that make sense for a rocker bottom? I will check with more detail later, it was dark and cold.

My Addiction 01-06-2011 03:12 PM

Ok maybe thats not a rocker, could it just be thats where the hull starts to curve up? the hull is also straight and flat once it "turns" up, 44" in front of transom. And its more like 1/16" gap at the end of the level.

UPDATE: Just got back from testing with my drive .5 " lower(2" spacer). It did not start to porpoise/hop until around 65mph. Thats better by 5mph. And once it started it was not as pronounced as before. May have lost 50 to 100 rpm and a mph but not real sure. I will try more things this weekend, I ran out of playtime today.

This makes me real curious about going lower. But I dont want to loose speed.

go lower and then swap props to get your rpms back. smaller pitch at higher rpm is better than big pitch at lesser rpms.

just my 2 cents worth.

well...what happened. did you fix it or learn to live with it? I am thinking about removing a slight hook to increase speed but don't want that to happen! I have no porpoising all the way up and over the 80 mark.

My Addiction 08-10-2012 02:38 PM

I have been living with it. Until last weak when my crank broke:poopoo: I'm currently building a 555 and am intersested to see if it will pull out of the porpoise. I had a Baja that porpoised until I got it to go faster(65 to 75). hopefully the new 555 will get me from 77 up to 87+ and I will need the boat to settle down at that speed. I will start a thread when the motor nears completion.

If it aint broke, don't try and fix it. If you like the way it rides, I'd leave it. Good luck.
