My new (to me) 32
I just got a 1999 Active Thunder 32V traded up from 27 Fountain
Just wanted to thank every body for there straight answers on how they felt about Thunders. Going to a poker run this weekend for the first trip out on it, should be a blast! Anyone have any pointers on trim and postion of the boat for best handling in rough water? Thanks James |
congrats. i saw it was your birthday this week, no? If so, happy birthday, if not, happy birthday early.:D
Talk to three people that I know, who really do drive the boat like no tomorrow. Shane Sherman(aka ssherman or jesse james on oso) Todd Kjell(activethundertodd) and Joe skrocki(audacity). I spoke to all three of these guys when I was looking at a 32. They can give you all the pointers you need. These three are great drivers and throttlemen. You can also talk to what is his name......oh yeah, Pat at Active Thunder. Good Luck, congrats and welcome to our family. Dan |
Oh yeah, one more question, who's thunder did you buy, randy wilds?
|
No, I purchased that boat :D Email me at [email protected] if you don't mind, I would like to ask a couple of questions.
|
I bought it from Ron McGraw out of Maryland. I will talk with those guys, from the post in the past it seems like these guys really love there boats.I post a picture from this weekend when I get back.
Thanks for the info. |
You gonna make it to the Thunder Run ?
|
Man, I would hope so, he is almost half way there already.:p ;) :D :D
|
hey linn, you gonna make the trip from Houston for the thunderrun. It is in October?
|
Dan,
I am thinking that I will be there. It depends on some other things that I have going on. Linn |
I really hope you can, I have a very good feeling it is giong to be one hell of a run, and one hell of a great time.
|
Excursion,
How are you powered? i have ran all types of 32 with and with out notches with and with out extension boxes light lay ups and heavy ones everything from stock 390 hp 502 carbs to 900 hp blower motors and the one constant i can say is the boat doesnt require much positive trim to get the nose up and the tabs at nuetral have always been plenty for me ( ihave the long ones) I run in LOTO water at 1/2 to 1 below nuetral on the tabs and 1 to 1/2 above nuetral on the drives and just let it rip and try to control the boat with the throttle i rarely adjust the trim while running hard. In 8-10 seas in Miami i ran everything nuetral and averaged 72 mph in those seas. On a flat water drag race tabs up and drives out and a little magic on the wheel to keep the chine walk out and was able to muster an 88 mph radar clocking in full pleasure trim on a 95+ degree day on loto(lake of the ozarks fresh water) |
The boat is powered by HP500 carbs. with notched transom, standard k-planes, not many options in the cabin. just the standard.

Congrates James
I am glad you stuck it out and bought a Thunder, you will like it.
Sorry things didn't work out with us, but I had to go with who said they wanted it first. See ya on the water some day Randy |
Congrats Excursion, we are all hoping to make it to the Thunder run this and the more the better:D Welcome to the family, you will definetly have a fun summer:cool: Post some pics when you pick her up, thanks.

PICTURES, WE WANT PICTURES!!!! Welcome to our disfunctional bunch! See you at the Thunder Run!
|
Thanks Randy I dont blame you a bit I would have done the same thing. I knew the only boat that I wanted was a thirty-two. The good thing was the boat I bought was only one and a half hours away in Maryland. Did you get the other boat?
I had it at the poker run on Smith Mountain Lake , temp at 65, white caps, cooler, 4 people and at WOT the boat was hitting the rev limiter , 28 bravos, the boat was running around 81-82 on Gps. Should I step up the props to 30's? Everyone that I talked to was right, it handles great. I will try and talk with Pat tomorrow about the boat. I do need a swim platform any pointers? |

Excursion,
sounds like you are getting to know your boat real well. I would first ask Pat or Steve at AT if they can get you a platform for your boat. If that does not work than I would suggest you post on the general board. I used Extreme Marine for my first platform and it was great. I used them for my second one for my 37 and what a cluster puck. They shipped it across the country first insetead of to Florida where it was origionally to go, they shipped it in a cardboard box and it got all damaged, then to top it off the pucker does notr fit. The steering rams hit. Luyckily for me the guys at AT are so good to me and are going to cut it to fit, repaint it, and install it back on the boat.:) |
Excursion,
My 32' with 500 HP's runs about the same as yours. I would wait til the heat of the summer 80+deg before buying new props. You will come off the rev limiter as the weather heats up. Heavy chop, 3-4 footers I run 5 on tabs(3 is even with the bottom) and 3 on drives. In smooth water drives on 5 to cruise, 6-7 at WOT and tabs up. It's a good boat, enjoy it. I do!!! |
Hey Tom, haven't talked with you in a while. How was the TIC FA 200. Have any pics, I wish I could have made it, almost finished about another month, take care:D

NICE!!!! Where do you boat?
|
Nice boat. Where will you run it? We boat in the Upper Chesapeake down to Tilghman Island .
|
We are on the James river out of Richmond, I do go down to Hampton a few times a year. I want to go to more places that was the purpose of getting a bigger boat, so we could stay the weekend out boating. Any good places, I like to explore and meet people.
|
way cool, very nice graphics, hope to see ya at the Thunder Run:D

Congrats Excursion,
What Thunderstruck said is almost exaclty as I run mine except in moderate rough water I'll run the tabs at 4 and the drives at 3 or 4. I can run hi 70's like this. When its relativley flat I and wot, I run the drives at 7 and totally tuck the tabs all the way up. I went to 30 lab finished props and saw about the same speed as I did with the 28's however I wasn't up against the rev limiters. Now after the rebuild the 30 labs are running right up to the rev limit. I'm showing 87 mph on the gaffrig speedo. Haven't gps'd it yet but my gaffrig has always been real close. I may try some 31 labs this summer. That is if I haven't sold or traded my boat. BTW mine is still for sale if any is interested. Todd |
I have a chance to try some 29 labbed props this weekend so I will let you know what happens next week. I spoke with you about your boat maybe two months ago. Thanks for all the info on Thunders.
