great boat, anybody own one here to tell me how they run with different types of power??

R Addiction 05-27-2002 09:47 AM

We have a 25 Active with a 502 mag and this boat runs 70+. I have Gil exhaust, K&N filter and rapidfire plugs. The big difference was tweaking the prop... This yeilded 3mph. The 28 would do better with at least a 500 EFI. Or a set of small blocks. Powerboat magazine had a test on a 28 last year with a 500 HP. Look in there archives. Good Luck!!

Jafo on this boat has a 28 with a pair of small blocks, i am sure he will chime in. He was going to take me out for a ride last time we were down, but when he comes to florida he brings hurricanes and bad weather.:p

thats cool, i was just wondering what the difference in mph/performance between twin small blocks vs twin bigblocks and how it would run with a single bigblock

Chris 05-28-2002 08:02 AM

The 28 Savage is not offered in a twin big block application.
I have a 28 with a single 502 MPI. My wife and I love the boat. We lived on it this past weekend, the cabin is huge for a 28' boat. The boat runs great in rough water, at 4800-4900 RPM I am seeing speeds in the low 60's.

thanks chris, what do you think the boat runs with twin small blocks?? like the new 6.2l 377 320hp?

Chris 05-29-2002 08:04 AM

I would guess that with twin small blocks the boat would run 73-75mph.

Sorry for the delay in replying- I've been off-line for a little while.
I have a '99 Savage with the twin 350MagMPI's- I don't have much seat time in the boat yet; haven't even run it since bringing it home due to the job.:( The boat is capable of speeds in the low/mid seventies in salt-water- I'll post fresh-water results from Lake Michigan when the opportunity arises.
I'm not sure what the hull would do with the 6.2L engine, but the other twin-equipped 28 AT's (2 of them?) have Scorps, and the speeds are 80ish.
I plan on building a pair of custom low compression ratio strokers for this boat set up for WhippleChargers in the future. I'm hoping for speeds near 90.

I CAN attest to this boats' rough water capability- it is true I have a tendency to bring high winds and bad weather every time I come to the beautiful state of Florida  We took the 28 out in some very snotty water in February out of Hillsboro Inlet (Pat thought we were nuts) and the boat handled it very well. This is a VERY big-feeling 28' boat!
Jim
