No, the pics that were uploaded today were at my request. I got a crew of 3 guys leaving Michigan Friday and driving through the night to take delivery Saturday. I'm F'in pumped!

camptappakeg69 01-28-2012 08:34 AM

I must have just caught Joe at that time of the month :D... Not that it matters what is said through PM anyway... That's why its called 'private' message. Joe doesn't have a leg to stand on. We'll be waving at his dominators anyway as we roll on by... 3 footers, 5 footers... Don't matter :lolhit:

Just noticed ad updated w/ pics on 1/27. Why add pics if boat is sold as of 1/25?

302Sport 01-30-2012 06:17 PM

You ever been for a ride in the north atlantic on a January afternoon :party-smiley-004:

D2HP 01-30-2012 06:24 PM

Great purchase, hope I can check it out on Torch, never seen an AT up close! That Dmax pull it ok? 3 dudes in a Reg cab?

THE 288 KID 01-30-2012 07:00 PM

Closest I've been to one was looking off the dock into laszlos 37 at the spring run. Using my dads crew cab to go get it. I'm sure ill have it at torch once or twice. Look for me!

The mechanic was supposed to get me recent pics. He was out of town. Guy that posted the ad for the owner got some pics and just threw them up on the ad.

AJ POWERPLAY 01-30-2012 11:07 PM

It'll be up there... May have to walk around the 380 to see it though :D once you make it over to it I'm sure katie will have a beer ready for you guys!

THE 288 KID 01-31-2012 12:03 PM

Last weekend didn't work for the seller, he was in Florida checking up on his new boat. Also the drives are still off the boat, mechanic gets back today to finish putting it back together. I'm leaving THIS coming Friday to get it Saturday.

Downtown42 01-31-2012 01:09 PM

ok, thanks. You got a great deal :thankyouthankyou:

Just curious, why are the drives off? Rebuild? Didn't the motors also have some work done on them too?

THE 288 KID 01-31-2012 02:08 PM

Top ends of the motors were redone due to a reversion issue. When doing that the mechanic didn't like how the gimbles felt and opted to put in new ones. Headers were pressure checked and passed, so the reversion issue has been blamed on the exhaust flap hanging up and allowing water back in. Kind of worries me a bit :-/

302Sport 01-31-2012 02:23 PM

The reversion is from running the silent choice which is a common problem

The exhaust tips definitely can be the problem. One of mine went last year and one the year before. Caught it before it did any damage. Just check them each time you clean the boat. Make sure they still move and that they aren't cracking/chipping/falling apart.

Sweet, thanks for the info. Makes me feel a lot better!

Walk around whose 380?? You know you will be sitting right next to Kid on that AT love seat!

THE 288 KID 01-31-2012 09:13 PM

Fish will be out there on the "290PQ/Apache wave killer".... There's no girls on my boats, he wouldn't waste his time.

THE 288 KID 01-31-2012 09:25 PM

The front "love seat" arrangement was actually the biggest reason I chose this boat. Now ill have a place to rest my giant pork sword while under power instead of just laying it on the cockpit floor and stepping on it....

Uncle Calvins 380... And i may be a lot of places this summer but the love seat ain't one! :lolhit:
The 290 will also be in commission on the sandbar... She's faithful!

THE 288 KID 01-31-2012 11:31 PM

I'll make a note of that.

The header pipe for # 7 and 8 cylinder is shorter than the rest. A small amount of reversion at idle happens regerdless of silent choice or not. A small amount of moisture makes it up to the port but not into the cylinder. It soakes into the composite header gasket and causes corrosion on the exhaust flange of the aluminum head. It can be repaired by machining it and welding and remachining. the moisture also causes heavier carbon deposites on the valve stem and eventually the valve will stick in the guide. Removing the ring on the valve seal on the exhaust valves allows a little more oil down the guide and helps prevent sticking. To lessen problems later, do not use the Merc composite header gasket. Cometic makes a Stainless multi layer steel header gasket. I can try to get you the part number later. They are expensive but reuseable. Also just try to minimise the idle time. I have both steering pumps running my steering (special plumbing required) so I can use one engine in long no wake zones. Allows you to push that engine up to 1200ish stopping the reversion.

Congrats on the deal of the century!!!

THE 288 KID 02-01-2012 01:09 PM

So if I just bump the idle up when I'm gonna be idling for longer periods of time would that help me out?

I really appreciate you taking the time to explain that.

302Sport 02-01-2012 01:15 PM

Make it dry to the tips and forget about it

Yes just try to minimise the idle time. Dry to the tip is too loud.

Never too loud...:)

302Sport 02-01-2012 03:35 PM

Never too loud......if you get pulled over just tell them your mufflers are in the shop getting worked on.

THE 288 KID 02-01-2012 04:39 PM

Seans dominator with 500efi's and dry exhaust was ridiculously loud. People at muscamoot were not impressed when he let it sit there and idle facing the oppositte row of boats while his battery charged.

I have to put new tails on mine, was thinking of going complete dry....avoid it now??

302Sport 02-01-2012 05:10 PM

I've had two boats with dry tails and whatever I get next will have dry tails. Nothing is better than pulling the headers and seeing perfect looking valves, not some corroded crap because I cared what some yuppies thought. And I also run 100oct low lead from the airport so the smell is outstanding if you like that kind of stuff

Depends on where you boat. The west side of MI is strict. Higgins is ok, my buddy and I got pulled over with twin 572's with dry and were just told to stay in the middle of the lake. Noone I know including myself has had any issue on St. Clair. A few of my friends have dry and it sounds great! If you like the sound go for it.

And Kid, when your in the line dry doesn't matter, people frown on it no matter what ya got. ;)
