bravo1 vs 800hp

Ok, that seems to be the limit. fist time floored yesterday, snapped the drive:thankyouthankyou: still dont know my top speed DAMM IT.

OCCJoe 03-11-2013 09:24 AM

The only chance a bravo 1 would have behind 800hp single . It would have to be a very small and light boat . Baby it out of the hole and only turn a 3 blade . Break these rules Break bravo's !

Clock starts ticking when you buy a Bravo drive. Mine broke twice with less than 500 hp. It really isn't hp that breaks them its Torque. Your best bet is to ditch the bravo.

fatherb68 03-11-2013 10:55 PM

I used a b-max upper with a imco lower. 950 hp. I broke one prop shaft and up graded to imcos hd bearing carier and shaft. Have not had any problems.

Curious, What IMCO lower are you using? And what size prop shaft did you break? What size are you using now?

carrera1 03-12-2013 09:30 AM

I knew the drive would break, but it did hang in there last season with 740hp. I couldn't have babied it anymore, flat water/slow throttle up/ minimal trim., just wanted to know top speed before a -2 shorty..o well at least its still freezing cold and not mid summer.

fatherb68 03-12-2013 10:54 PM

it is a -2 sc case. I broke the 1 inch shaft and replaced it with the 1 7/16 inch. It comes with a different carrier as well. The gears are merc xr

did you break the 1" in the snot, or flat water power up. I ask because I got xr upper on the way, and still want to test with standard x dim

mgh 03-13-2013 06:30 PM

What speeds did you see before the break? My boat has a xr lower. No issues last season, changing some stuff around for this upcoming season so hope to be safe. Look forward to hearing your results

fatherb68 03-13-2013 10:17 PM

when the shaft finally broke the water was not bad. But it may have twisted prior to that day. The boat ran a bit over 100, but I never ran it with my new prop.

Here's 800HP on a Nordic.

Not bragging by any means, I'm looking for spare drive.

I saw your other video. Is 85 your top speed so far.

My Addiction 03-14-2013 09:02 PM

I have an XR with 1.25 prop shaft. I hope my little 700 hp motor doesn't give it any problems. I always granny throttle.

Good Luck

You are just over the edge,in my opinion. I would start building a back up drive(less down time).

Awesome. And yes I see arneson drives in the near future, I cant afford #6s :lolhit:

ROADHOG 03-15-2013 02:12 PM

I'm going to break every one's heart. I had twin 800's in a 97 32' went 3 years without any trouble. This was before Mercury went to 3 different types of Bravo's.

Top speed on boat was 103mph, that was before a put a hole in one of pistons with bad gas on a Poker Run. Even did the Miami to Key West Poker Run with no trouble.

Since then my luck has not been so good. Have outboards with Warranty!!!!

laszlo01 03-15-2013 02:41 PM

DAMMM ! That's a nice prop....

I think your right, my wife should get me one of those. Wait are we talking about the girl or the prop:lolhit:

fatherb68 03-15-2013 10:48 PM

Back to the question about bravo's. There are alot of things that you have to consider. The drive hight, water conditions, how hard you accelerate, how hard you run and how good you are on the throttle on re entry.

Something tells my my wife holding a 4 blade stock bravo 1 prop won't have the same effect :D

Mange 03-18-2013 05:11 PM

Had a 875'hp and Bravo XR with no probs at couple of 100h. Sold the boat w/o motor and as far I know the guy runs the same drive behind a 600hp motor and no probs.
I changed oil every 10h - a big homemade drive shower and foot throttle.

http://s1155.photobucket.com/user/sm...bd326.jpg.html the bravo gear made a clean break, no damage to teeth, or anything else. gear material just not strong enough to handle power. used xz gear next to it is identical, and those seem to break teeth. not bust in half. http://s1155.photobucket.com/user/sm...tml?sort=3&o=0
