2003 Active Thunder 37 in Classifieds

Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of the 2003 Active Thunder called radio active in the classifieds.

Wondering about condition, etc. I have researched the 37 AT and they sound like they can handle the rough stuff well.

Thanks in advance.

nice price! not sure about the colours, and the engines would scare me a little,,, but I don't know the boat and the history, but run over this add each week !

Sound power and drive combo. The place where it is listed has done all of the mechanical work on it for the past 5 years or more. The paint is a little faded from what it used to be. Things like the gauge rings, and other powder-coated/anodized parts need some attention.

It's a sound boat and runs like a raped ape. There are no bad stories about that boat. It was originally built by "Jassman" here on OSO years ago; and no expense was spared.

Doing some research on some old offshoreonly posts about the boat. Looks like it may need some interior work and bezels redone.

I believe the boat has been for sale for over a year.

But the price is'nt bad at all for an 03 With such big power! How fast does it run?

tomswift 04-07-2013 09:48 PM

supposedly 100ish

2003

Have you guys ever ridden in or driven one? That price with that power and drive combo is hard to beat. Interior, etc is the cheap part.

I drove that boat back when jassman owned it had 675 KE in it fastest he ever seen was 102 and the other one with the same motors and year ran 103 I think his name was thunder Dan. Good riding boat. Not sure of condition now though

Keep in mind its a 10yr old salt water boat. Would not scare me, just be ready to give it lots of attention, was a very cool boat in its day.

I wonder how the ride is in rough water compared to the following boats:

Fountain 42 staggered
Fountain 38
Hustler 388
Apache 36

There have been some comparative write ups in the past which you can probably find with some searching here on OSO.

I have driven a staggered 42 Fountain a couple times in some snotty water, and now have driving the 37 AT in some snotty water. I would say that at or below "cruising" speed...55-65 mph, the AT has a better ride. The Fountain really needs to be going faster than 65 to smooth things out and start flying the hull. After that point, they feel pretty similar...both do VERY well in rough water.

The 38 Fountain is a smaller boat than the 37 AT....less running surface...and, likely, quite a bit lighter.

Don't really know much about the Hustler, other than with the big integrated swim platform, its probably smaller than the AT as well, albeit only slightly.

36 Apache is a wave crusher...but you are going to be looking at a much older boat...won't have NEARLY the ammenities that the AT will have.

A 36 Apache rides just like a straight bottom Top Gun.

And requires A LOT of power.

ActiveThunder 04-09-2013 01:36 PM

Water line to water line the 42 Fountain is 10" longer than the AT. That was based on one at my factory with a bathtub ring around it and 2 plumbobs.

Wanna know what else isn't as it seems? :party-smiley-004:

Well I am going to give them a call tomorrow and make arrangements to fly down and look at it. Its too big of a purchase to buy sight unseen.

I've have four powerboats with mercury blue motors all twin engine(525 sc, 2-500 efi's and 1-500 whippled efi's running 83-95 mph)and want to make the next step up to reputable big power and drives. I think the Keith Eikerts and Bmax drives might be the ticket.

My biggest complaint about the boat are the front seats but most of the Outerimits and Nortechs have the same seats. But this does make for a nicer cabin. My wife and I really want the amenities also- a/c, generator, vacuflush toilet.

My wife said this is my last powerboat and she wants a cruiser so I am going out large.

I'll report back after the trip to florida.

Thanks for all the help!!!!!!!!

Send me an e-mail if you would like detailed pictures I just took a coupla months ago.

Peter at Performance is going through it and starting her up, checking systems, etc and I will have the boat here at the factory next week to start on some refurbishing.

Just curious, what ever happen to this? Did the owner pull the engines yet to part it out? Did he sell it? AB

Still for sale and in Florida based on what Sydwayz posted a week or two ago.
