Toy Box is diversifying a bit...

Over the past couple weeks, I sold/traded, my Mini Hawk, 2 Yamaha PWC, 4 associated trailers; and an extra Mercury 40HP that I was saving for the Mini Hawk. I had to make some room...

I picked up this gem a few weeks ago:

And as of a few hours ago; this is now packed in there:

I have not put either one in the water yet, but the cat is now tentatively for sale.

"Downsizing" turned into "diversifying," huh? Lol.

Because its a jet, you should call the second one "Blowin' Green." :)

Maybe you should keep the toys and build a bigger garage

I like that actually. Maybe: "Blowin' Green Machine" even.

Nice looking, grew up with those river rat boats. Still like the old school jets and V drives.

Looks like you have a clean one. How fast? Any shots of the pump?

I expect it to run between 65 and 75.
It's a 468 4-bolt, 650cfm, mild cam, roller rockers, probably 450HP or so. I am changing a few plumbing items, and change from SS to aluminum impeller.
Drop snoot, scoop grate, pump preloader, bigger carb; already on the list after visiting our local jet boat "master" yesterday on the way home. (Tommy Moore)

As a kid I loved jet boats. My uncle and his friends all had them and I can still remember them blowing by our place on the river throwing huge rooster tails.

Dukedonzi 04-14-2014 10:01 AM

I have one quite similar in my toy box, 455olds, Berkley pump, diverter... I love that boat I've had it for about 20 years now. A good friend of mine bought when we were young and I took one look at that boat and said someday I would own it and then I would never sell it, so far I do, and I haven't. My son will inherit it when he sticks me in the nursing home... But that's a long way off. (I hope) :evilb:

Cool

The pics of the blue cat appear to be from the parking lot of bass pro shops in ashland. Correct me if I'm wrong. Both boats look great!

You are correct. That's where I met the shipper when it came in from Texas. I wanted to sea trial it in the fish pond, but it was still drained for the winter. :D

Tommy did all the work on my pump. Place diverter, wedge and ride plate. Plus he labbed my impeller. I see you have grease fitting in the top of your bowl and some guys run hard grease in them but there supposed to have plugs in there to fill it with gear lube. One plug hole is lower than the other so when you squirt the oil in the lower one it pushes the water out the top one. I would ask Tommy if you should go back with gear oil when he puts it back together. Tommy Moore is the MAN with a Berkeley Pump.

When/are you coming back to VA? I'd love your input on a few motor things.

I was down in Houston at the end of last week, visiting Clark, Chuck, and the girls.
They wanted me to pass along a warm hello to the crowd!

US1 Fountain 04-14-2014 09:35 PM

Very nice. Those jet boats are cheaper to get the same look as those #6 drive boats. :)

My brother has Carslon Glastron 460/berkley. Lots of show, not so much go :D

Nice Southwind Sydwayz! The gel coat looks cherry! Very well taken care of. Where do you plan on running it?

I'm probably going to stay out here most of the summer. I'll call you one day this week. Need to give you the site name where all the Jet boat guys are. A lot of info on there.

J-Bonz 04-14-2014 10:14 PM

I found SoCalJetBoats to be a great site...

Sydwayz 04-14-2014 10:21 PM

Thanks everyone. It's a 1973, and I consider it a classic as it's slightly older than I am. :D
The gel has been cleared over at some point, which has preserved the color a bit. It was stored indoors, and came with a nice full cover as well. Looking at the top and bottom, it's a bit deeper green below; but I really like the "mint" green hue it is now. I shimmers in the sun. I have a spare set of bell Rewarder headers for it as well. The current twisties have removeable mufflers in them which will be coming out as soon as I put a water valve on the exhaust.

The Speedliner cat is a 1976, and is also all original metal flake gelcoat.

I live across the street from a river that's more like a ditch; too small for my big boat anywhere near home. I've had it in the river before, as close as 15 miles or so from home, but I need to put in about 50 miles away. With either of these small boats, I can launch them 15 miles from the house and run around in fresh water. I will have one or both of them up at Jack's place on Lake Anna this summer for BOTE. (Beast Of The East)

I was thinking of Lake Anna when I saw registration on the boat. That get together at Jacks place is high up on the list of cool boating events to check out. If I lived closer I would definitely make the trek. O well, it will stay on the list. Again, sweet boat. Can't wait to here some actual numbers...

Brian, When is BOTE at lake anna........I've googled a number of items and can't find anything that lists a date (I know it's in June)

June 14th, I think.

Cool little jet Brian. It's a sickness worse then the big boats - the sensation of speed is a lot different when you are a foot off of the water. Good luck with it and enjoy! Texashotboats.com is a good sight as well.

REMEDY 04-17-2014 07:41 AM

Brian, Mark is right about the bowl. Take the grease fittings out and go back to gear oil. Its much better. Jim at performance jet has always helped me out with parts and information. His website also has a bunch of tech info on it. These jet boats are adductive and a cult following almost as string as the AT cult. You will have as much fun with that thing as Monsoon!!

Sydwayz 06-09-2014 02:28 PM

I just put the Southwind jet boat up for sale.
There is another boat on the market that I wanted in the first place; only reason mine is for sale.
I'll keep it if the other one sells.
