Savage

What year was the first Savage produced? Any pics out there of them. Any year.

Griff 07-04-2015 01:35 AM

First model year was 1998.

Thanks Griff. Been looking. Hard to come by.

they are hard to come by . great boats noone wants to get rid of them . im struggling to decide if i want a 28 or 32 next ......

Griff 07-04-2015 11:59 AM

The 28 is basically a shrunk down 32. I think the 28 has about a foot less engine bay room and about 3' less cabin. Cockpit is about the same.
I think it was around 2003 that AT cut down the 32 bottom mold and started using it for the 28.

scottw 07-04-2015 08:30 PM

Just like the fact that the 28 is a single. I hear how much guys with twins spend on fuel on a weekend and it is out of my league.

Griff 07-05-2015 12:44 PM

There were 2 or 3 twin smallblock 28 AT's made also.
My 32 AT with twin 502mpi's gets better fuel economy than my single engine(550hp) 28 Pantera did.

I can see that. Those 28 Panteras are a heavy boat. Good in the rough but need big power to run fast. Bet the twin AT doesn't do as well on fuel as the Savage. Lol...

Not sure if i have the first Savage but is definitely the first with twins. Mine is titled as 1999. At 48 -52 mph (most economic cruise speed). My guess is i'm getting around 2+ mpg. But let's face it, I didn't buy this for the fuel mileage.

mo3d 07-07-2015 06:46 AM

I have an '01 w/ single 500.

Pete (Glad8her) has an '05 w/ 525.

Gordo 07-07-2015 08:11 AM

Years ago there was a 28 w/ twin smallblocks that ran really well. Not sure where it went, but was owned by the owner of Speed Racer

Yup, great boat! Mine's for sale, just not heavily advertising it.

Gladhe8er 07-07-2015 01:04 PM

And on fuel mileage..

Smartcraft tells me that at 42 mph I am burning 21 GPH, so 2 MPG. From there it goes down slightly, but never worse than 1.7 MPG.

It went to SoCal and then to Seattle. Still runs really well!

Everyones 28's are looking pretty sweet. Sorry Gladhe8er...being a 2005 it it probably a little out of my price range.

SunsationLarry 07-08-2015 12:29 AM

What are the details on your great looking '05? Maybe someone lurking will be interested.

I don't want to get this thread locked or deleted. Anyone is free to PM me. I'm talking to 1 or 2 guys about the boat currently from Facebook.
