How thin is the hull material of a AT 37
 

Hi,

I have a AT 37 from 1999, it looks like it is realy the very first 37 Offshore.

I used it now fo r3 saisons with no hull problem and it does not feel instabil.

It sit on a ACE Trailer, which i have converted from electrik/hydraulic to air/hydraulic brakes.

At the center axle i have a part which sensors the load of the Trailer. This part is very near to the hull.

When i load the boat on the Trailer last time , last year, the Hull got a hole, in the bottom from the bracket of this Load Sensor.

Directly on the side of a stringer. I did not know that this happend till i greased the wheel bearings last week, and looked thru

the wheels and wheel cover directly into the hole. 5" long and 1" high. I have it in a Boat shop, it's a friend of mine, an they told

me that the material ist with the gel coat just about 3-4 mm thick and not easy to repair. That's less then 2/10 of a inch.

Does anybody now how thick the older 37 Models normaly are? Have they problems with cracks in bottom area or do they break.

I now it's a light weight boat, just about 3600 kg. They do a lot of Glass Fiber repair there but have never worked on such a thin

When we spray the gelcoat it is aprox. 25 mils. It is for appearances only. Nothing structural.

I think the OP means the outer glass skin. I saw a former Fountain race boat at a well known glass shop awhile back. It had been sold after racing and it needed a transom and entire rear of boat redone. I'd estimate the skin to be 1/16 inch thick, less than two MMs. The glass guy agreed with me that the hull should have been destroyed by Fountain and not sold.

The boat wasn't built for kilo runs and is 18 years old. I some how doubt it's paper thin and should be scrapped.

I don't remember if it had a cored bottom or not. We stopped coring the bottoms after Gordo's Racing Adventures.

However if it is cored than you still have the coring and the laminates on the inside which more than equals the outside. If you poked a hole in the outside skin obviously repair it before you go run it. It shouldn't be that difficult.

Yes it's 18 years old, and i know one of the pre owner had two very big motors in it.

I have two 502 MPI with Whipples in it.

Like i wrote, no problem, it runs great, the hole was my foult while i put it on the trailer.

Repair is mostly done.

That looks like the lifting strakes. It would have two layers of bidirectional glass and then a filler. The actual bottom is on the inside of this.
