towing a 32' AT
Can it be done reasonably w/ a Ford Expedition 5.4L, 3.73 gears and airbags in the rear suspension? We are not talking going to Florida from Michigan or anything, just normal to the lake and back flat land type towing w/out filling my pants or anyone else's.
Thanks for any input. |
Yea it can probably be done safely but you will have to play with the boat possition on the trailer to get the proper tonge weight. I pulled my boat back from fruit ridge with a new expedition last summer when I blew the head gaskets on my truck. I used to pull my boat with a full size BRONCO. It was the tail waging the dog. White nuckle all the time. My boat and trailer probably weighs about 12500 to 13500 lbs.

It can be done, I believe the expedition can tow 7000-7500. A 32 A.T. weighs approx. 7000 pounds, plus trailer. The airbags will help but you will be light on power, only 260hp, get a chip, and an exhust, that will help. Good luck:D

Bill I tow my Sonic with my Tahoe....you should be OK!!!!besides rack storage rules!!!!

yes, I was towing my 32 at with a chevy 1500 2wd, 5300 motor with 373 gears. The tongue weight can be a bit on the heavy side depending on the set up but I would travel on the highway and didn't have a problem getting up the ramp.

Hey Mike, when we were pulling out our boats at the end of the Thunder run, you had no problems pulling out your 32. Those 2003 GM front ends look sweet, plus 285hp helps. I think you need to add a blower to that set up.:p :D Hey what ever happened to your drive situation, take care. Jeff and Sandy:D

I tow mine with a 1500 GMC with 373"s I would suggest electric over hydrallic brakes on the trailer I got them on all 3 axled for under a grand. makes all the difference in the world. The onlty time I would ever feel uncomfortable is when the trailer would engege the surge brakes so the new brakes took care of that.

I would like to know more about the electric brakes. Is there a web site that I can get more info on them. |
Agree with ssherman on the electric over hydraulic brakes. I go them on my new MYCO and they are great. GIves you the control of electrics with the corrosion resistance of surge and no cluck when starting out.

Hey Jassman,
I agree, the new 03 GMC is bad ass. The 2500 with the 6.0 and 4.10 gears has no problem pulling the rig. I was surprised how tough my old 1500 was. The drive situation has not yet been solved. I did have the old one repaired and have been using it. John and I are waiting to get all the funds in hand before we order a set of xr's or imco's. I need to get a hold of Steve and hijack those 2" imco shorties. The boat is pulling hard to 95mph and then hitting a wall. Steve and John think a 100mph is possible, wouldn't that be something. Talk to you later, Obnoxious;) |
