Temp problems with 27' Advantage Victory
 

I'm having an issue with a 27' Victory and I was hoping this forum would help me with? First the power is a 496mag with XR drive upper but IMCO shorty lower. Cruising around 3000rpm the boat does great but anything higher (rpm) and the engine temp goes up.... I'm wondering if any of you Advantage guys have had this problem when running the shorty on your boats? It currently does not have a spacer and I am not famillier withe X-demision on this boat. I'm thinking the pickup on the shorty may be picking up more air as the boat comes more out of the water at higher speeds? I have rebuilt the sea water pump with the kit from JC Marine and have plenty of water flow going into the boat but not sure what happens after that? I am going to install a water pressure gauge this week. I have seen the post about the check balls and the coolent being dirty in the closed cooling system and they are next on the list, but I think it has something to do with the shorty. Any ideas would be great......

I tried a shorty on mine and I didn't see a temp problem....but the boat didn't like it at speed and was unstable with my big motor.... i have had my 27' for about 12 years and as a hobby, have replaced about evertthing, so let me know if I can be of any additional help....SNS

Highly doubt its the shorty. I've had a -2 IMCO on mine pretty much since its new. Advantage sets these boats up with the drive so deep in the water there is no problem with that water pickup. As it is, with the -2 lower, my nose cone is 4-4.5" below the keel, plenty deep. Plus the water pickup on the IMCO is lower than the side pickups on the standard bravo lower anyway. A water pressure gauge will only be so helpful since you say theres plenty of freshwater flowing into the boat (and out the exhaust too I presume). I would say its something in the closed cooling system or the heat exchanger. May have sucked up some grass into the heat exchanger...?

Have your hoses checked for blockage especially thru the bellows to the outdrive.
