Motor Options
Hey guys !! I am getting ready to start the process of getting the 28`Victory and I am at a delima... I wanted to get the boat without a motor as I have a guy here that is going to build be a charged 502 mag with 7lbs more less that would give me about 650HP....
The issue I have is $$ right now. I asked him about just getting the 496HO with the boat then next summer upgrading the engine with procharger or whipple system. his opinion is that the 496ho yet a great motor does not have alot of good parts on the market to beef it up with and says if at all possible get the 502 MAg and then upgrade...
I think I am going to get the 496ho due to the $$ issues.
what is the opinion on the board about upgrading the 496ho with a charger system ?
Thanks,
Cory

We went with twin 496ho's in our 30 Vict. cause of $ issues (I wanted twin 525's he he). If you are looking for more HP then call GT in Montclair, CA or Teague Marine in Valencia for their EFI packages. If you must go with a Merc setup with upgrades later, then do not use the 496 cause the parts are not up to it in the long run. just my .02
