Lab Finished Props
Question - do you think I can pick up 2 MPH by getting a Labbed finished 15 1/4 by 26 Bravo 4-blade? I am currently running 82MPG with a 525 EFI w/1:33gears. Is it worth the $900 for 2MPH? Thanks

Steve
What rpm are you turning. I calculate 5250 which means you are on the rev limiter for that motor. I suggest a labed 28 pitch. I run only labed props on my boats. they are good for 3 mph and a few hundred rpm but that only works if you are several hundred below the rev limiter. I think that boat and motor should easily run 86 mph with the proper prop. If you think $900.00 is expensive you should know I spent more than 4 times that for two herrings and 3 mph but worth every bit of it. Art |
I thought the herrings got you more mph than that.... although it should be said that you were already flying with labbed bravos when you got the herrings...

I am at 4900 RPMs so I have room for a few hundred r's. Thanks for your input.

That Boat Will Go 88mph With That Power. Might Want To Try Less Diameter Prop And Get It To 5200rpm. Check Your Drive Height. How Far Is The Prop Shaft Below The Center Sponson

The Mercury 525 motor needs to run at 5350-5400 RPM at WOT to achieve max top end. You need 450-500 RPM actually to do so. I would recommend that you try some different props before labbing. Maybe quest can post his Bravo performance numbers as well as his Hering numbers, to help you out.

Donzilla, would love to try, of course, if I ding it I buy it...

good luck with the prop. hope it helps...
always nice to see people willing to help and share equipment ... Don |

The cost for a Lab Finsihed Bravo I is $989.99 which includes the XR hub kit. I do think however that you should try to getr some feedback on semi-cleavers on your boat. I was hoping quest would post his data from his Hering Props.

Chad1,
We are getting ready to make an announcement about our props next week.. We have implemented a new treatment which makes the props very STRONG! Stay tuned. Julie |
fyi,
the hering props on quest's boat, are not cleavers.... Don |
Chromecat,
I am only familiar with his semi-cleaver Bravo sterndrive props and his Surface props. Julie |

The herring vs bravo test I did is really not relivant to the single engine 26 ft cat of blueamerican because my current boat is a 31 ft twin engine AO. But here is the test results. all runs were made in 72 deg weather on relative smooth water. The boat ran out of hp at 5700 RPM with the 34 pitched labbed bravos but since 32 pitch 5 blade herrings were more efficient, they required less HP at all rpm levels and therefore I was able to turn the motors to 6000 rpm when I hit the rev limiter. The herrings look very similar to the bravos but have, one extra blade and are razor sharp.

Ps I tried another manufacturers 5 blade on my 26 ft AO. It was not labbed. The boat ran higher mph at each rpm level but I lost top speed( motor wouldnt turn over 5500 RPM) because it put too much load on the motor. I cannot get the attachment graph to post |
Can you post a photo of the Hering props? I have had positive results with 5B props on twin engines as well, but the singles have been challenging with 5B props.
