1986 Apache with #4 drives ????
A friend of mine is buying a 1986 41 Apache here in Europe it is a hull without drivelines. The boat is a side by side installation. The seller had some parts form various other boats so my friend will be able to rig the boat. For drives they sold him a set of Speedmaster #4´s. If I am right my bet is that this boat was rigged with #3´s originally and if this is the case won´t he just create a lot of saltwater foam instead of moving the boat since the # 4´s have another prop location ?
Have any of you ever seen a 41 side by side with #4 drives ? And when was the #4 drive first introduced ? Cigaretteman |
Re: 1986 Apache with #4 drives ????
I think the #4 is 6 inch shorter then a #3, so he will need spacers and some good props. I know a guy who went from #3 to #5 on a side by side APACHE. Maybe TONTO can tell you more info. Take care, Steve.

That sounds like it's going to be a nightmare to setup. Lotsa time, and lotsa beers. :drink:

Re: 1986 Apache with #4 drives ????
I figure that for this to work the engines would have to be lovered and the transomplates lowered but I could be wrong.
This is still based on that the boat was rigged for #3´s in the first place. My friend is not planing on moving anything just bolting back in. More input please ! |
Re: 1986 Apache with #4 drives ????
OK,
The first problem you are going to run into is that there are virtuly no more parts for #3's or #4's, 3a's and 5's are a better deal. As far as putting the 4's on a boat that was originally rigged with 3's, you can make it work with spacers and 5 blade props. I have a friend in S. Fl. with a side by side 41 that came with 3's and is running 5's(same X as a 4) and 5 blade props. It takes a little bit to get on plane, but once on plane, see-u-by. Hope this helps. Robert |
