Re: Finally home
Jay,
Glad you finally got your dream ride, now put that sum b!tch in the water and go smash the sh!t out of them 4 footers like I told you. You going down for the Marathon race? I think there is going to be a big, APACHE showing there. Who knows I might drag my little hot rod down there as guest of the PREDATOR RACE TEAM (Thanks for the invite) GO TEAM PREDATOR Robert |
Re: Finally home
Cal I traded the baja, Its headed up to Illinois as far as I know to be shown and sold up there so most likely someone will buy a very inexpensive great running baja up that way. Had not run the baja since right before the hurricane last year and took it to innovation and they fired right up with no effort at all, idled perfectly. Those engines are PERFECT in that thing. Lets just hope Herb Stotler engines I have now are as perfect.
Robert, Im waiting for my coast guard registration to go through before I can drop her in the drink so I dont know as of yet, depends when my Finance company gets the title and then get the paper work to go through. Then im bound to put the name on the back with the port of call which is no big deal, just do stickers at the moment until I get her stripped, primed and painted then ill airbrush the name on the back but the stickers will have to do for now. Marathon is THIS weekend? Awful early in the season to be running in marathon isn't it? Cuda, you like those horns? I think they detract from the look and the long sleek lines of the apache myself. Granted I realize you NEED the horns but I think on boats like this they dont need to be seen just heard. Thanks Joe, Appreciate it, and You have a PM from a few weeks ago on Hilsinger J |
Re: Finally home
Nah, I don't like my horns either, but I don't want to have to patch the mounting holes. :(
|
Re: Finally home
You can remove the horns and put stanless steal fasteners in the holes with sealer as a temp. fix. It wont leak and should a lot less visible.

Re: Finally home
Im going to patch the holes since I have to paint the entire deck anyway so might as well do it right but I can see not wanting to paint an entire deck for 2 or 3 small little mounting holes

Print this out and tape it to the inside of your checkbook. It might help soften the blow someday. |
Re: Finally home
Gas was made to be burnt, I know that sounds childish and thats not what im trying to get across but im not going to let higher fuel prices ruin my fun and summer on a boat that I have busted my hump for 20 years for to foil it. Yes it hurts filling it up dont get me wrong and I hate the exxon's of the world bending all of us over and sticking it to us but i NEED to run this boat, I WANT to run this boat, I BOUGHT this boat so I could RUN it. Now if that means if I can run for 40 minutes and anchor up for about 4 hours instead of running 4 hours and anchoring up for 40 minutes then so be it. Ill accept that, might not LOVE the idea of it but Ill take it any way I can get it.

Re: Finally home
The gas is nothing compared to drive & blower motor parts!
|
Re: Finally home
Stop trying to scare me, If something breaks then it breaks, Ill fix it. Hell I shoveled 40 + grand into the baja over the years, rebuilt the engines 3 times, had to replace EVERYTHING from top to bottom on that boat since it was so far gone. This wont be any different, if it breaks, I'll be out of the game until I can fix it. If I need a machinist, I know LAZ at Mesa, great guy and I know and have talked to Herb Stotler about these engines and seems to be a fantastic guy. It is what It is. Cant worry about what might happen 2 or 3 years from now, Ill just deal with it when I get there. Herb told me though, if you take care of these and keep up on the maintenance schedule you will be good for a very long time. Lifter changes, valve adjustments, check for leaks in the headers periodically, fuel lines and fittings for corrosion, things of that sort, oil changes ETC, so I am hoping ill be okay but if I blow one up that is what guys like Laz and Herb are there for, they got your back!
For the record, I think Herb and Laz are very reasonably priced for doing entire engines down to just valve jobs so im not going to freak out at what could happen, just worry about it if it comes to that when it does. J |
Re: Finally home
You're right- push hard on the sticks and they'll push hard on your wallet.
What's scary is the parts situation on those #3 drives. The rarer they get the more expensve they'll get. 850 is a bunch more than 3's were designed for- take it easy on those holeshots and watch the throttles on re-entry. I got tired of fixing mine and put the 6's on. I'm sure I'll break those too! |
Re: Finally home
Konrad or Surface drive next. #6's are stupid money. But they do hold up.
|
Re: Finally home
I dont have 3's I have #3a's so they are beefier and less expensive to fix than the 3's were. (Made sure of that, I have the 26 spline prop shafts) plus one of the drives is brand new!!!! Got a little lucky there.

Re: Finally home
I hear ya. High gas isn't keeping me off the water and as far as something breaking. My thought is if it was built by man it will break someday you just fix it and move on. Have fun with your boat thats why you bought it.

Re: Finally home
Cuda, thanks for the video, how did she do this weekend? I know she has won every race so far they have entered.
|
Re: Finally home
Whoa, That things awesome, I have the Apache DVD's from Freeze Frame and there is alot of footage of this boat when it was owned by the guy up in Sellersville PA. His name is escaping me at the moment. I love the sound the Y pipes give the exhaust note, thats sweet. You guys have a good time down there? Fun place to be and to watch a race.

We had a great time this weekend, even though we were somewhat dissapointed in the number of boats. Great venue, nothing like being able to back the truck up to the viewing area. To be honest, I don't know where the Apache finished, but I do know it finished both days, and sounded cool as hell.

Re: Finally home
Here's another video of the 41, and Rio coming up on him under the bridge. It takes a pair of brass one's to run that bridge.

Re: Finally home
Rick said the same thing at his first race there last year, It scared him at first but after he got used to it, he was okay, Just have to pick a line and DONT MOVE
Now I really am dying to take my ride out, GRRRRRRR Found a leak in the tail pipe so I have to have that all welded up before I can drop her in the drink. Awesome footage Joe! J |
Re: Finally home
Just got my weekend update, my boys are 5 for 5 all first places. APACHES RULE.

Cuda, those MPG's are awesome, Amazing the boat with the Y pipe exhaust sounds just like it did in 1991-92 and 93 from the Freeze Frame DVD's I bought. Thing is awesome! I hope my boat runs that good and dances that well (Should same boat but I think they have a full stagger, I have a short stagger) J |
Re: Finally home
Get that bad boy running and bring it up to NY....I need some company !!
|
Re: Finally home
Would Love to Wes. Believe me!!!! Just getting all these things fixed and taken care of prior to dropping it in the water to prevent anything that I commonly call "Whoops, Oh CRAP!" moments
Had 4 1/2 years of those with the baja, I have learned by banging that boat up what NOT to do so Ill take GREAT care of this apache, so im taking my time but believe me, I am seriously contemplating doing the Rock the Bay Poker run in September in the chesapeake bay with Ike, Gotta have an Apache Dock there, you should come down, I know a buddy of mine who will be with me who is chompin at the bit to own Kageman. J |
Re: Finally home
Its smart to get everything right now even though I know how anxious you have to be ! :D
If your buddy ever wants a ride tell him we'll give him a good one right out of Shinecock Inlet on a rough day !! Stay with it and good luck. |
Re: Finally home
Wes, you are the man! Ill tell him thanks
