I thought you were talking about this one, but after pulling the pics up I see it's Fighter 1. Always loved this boat too, anyone know where this one went?

Re: Where are Meanstreak and 41st Airborn?
Cougarman has the right Pics.
Bobby Gallo owned Meanstreak, and raced it with Bobby Saccenti. I just wondered if he still had it. 41st Airborn was owned/built for a "swamp" :D friend of MM, who sold it to him un-rigged. But I don't know if it's any of those mentioned as possibilities above. |
Re: Where are Meanstreak and 41st Airborn?
I hear Meanstreak has been in storage for many years, I believe 41st Airborn is on the eastcoast, somebody posted picture of it awhile back. That big Grey 47 is in Europe I believe most of the time, I think it was at McManus a while back when I was there with mine.

Bob Wallace takes care of it in Mays Landing. Tonto owns the fighter squadron boat now named Tonto that originally belonged to Waxman and then another gentleman whose name slips my mind I believe calderone maybe. 41st airborne I dont have a clue anymore...... |

Re: Where are Meanstreak and 41st Airborn?
I remember both of these boats raced in the OPT near the same time. Meastreak always ran well and the couldn't get 41st to finish a race , I think it had some crazy blower motors in it.....
|
Re: Where are Meanstreak and 41st Airborn?
Ryan, yes those guys ran OPT in '90-'92, along with Allez Vite. Three 41 Apaches against a bunch of cats, and Reggie in the Ohio Steel Fountain. Great times!
41st did have some serious reliability problems, but not because his motors were particularly "Wild." Rather, they were home-built by a buddy of the owner (who never actually got in the boat for races: had his buddies do it), but I think the engine guy's experience was with cars, not boats. When he ran, he was about the same speed as Meanstreak, which had the same C & G 1000's we ran. Both were a couple of ticks slower than Allez Vite, for some unexplained reason.:D When we (along with Ohio Steel) switched to Merc 1000's in late '91, the other Apache's had stopped racing, probably because it was increasing clear that no amount of hoursepower was going to help us beat the Skater 40's. That was the end of Vee's and Cats racing against eachother in the same class. I can only imagine what it would have been like if we had today's hull technology for the Vee's back then. Sure would have been fun to run a 130 MPH Skater 39V against those cats! Back then, it would have been a "Cat-Killer" for sure! |

mm If memory serves me Leopajm / BRD used that particular boat as inspiration to build his Own Saber red. Hence picking on the color / his own color. Leopajm's a good guy and respectful of the tribe.:drink: Cougarman |

FatBoy (38T/G) and 2. the fact that my lagoon get so ****ty in the summer that all my white bottomed boats get stained on the running surface after a couple weeks of use .... |

Jerry, That's cool,........I was just going off memory in an email you and I shared during the build of your boat. I had stated to you how sharpe red should look and that I didn't ever remember ever seeing a red Apache. And you brought to my attension MeanStreak. So perhaps it's my fault assuming it was your inspiration. Sorry about that MM................ Jon |

I remember MM arrived after the race (1991 Worlds Final) had ended, and didn't know the results. When I told him in the wet pits, he didn't believe me. We started about a half mile behind everyone else, because we had steering problems and OPT refused to delay the start for us. But it was 3-4's on the outside, and we were first to the first mark and never looked back. We were so green that when we never saw another boat ahead of us, we figured that we must be off course and hopelessly lost. Remember the days whe "offshore" actually raced offshore, and you had to (gulp) navagate. Without GPS! We couldn't have made the race were it not for Bob Latham. He busted his butt to fix our steering problem (an Everglades FU), and then refused payment for his work. A class guy if there ever was one.:D And Kathy's not too bad, either! :evilb: |
Re: Where are Meanstreak and 41st Airborn?
I have Latham in all my boats, wouldn't use anything else..........
