Predator Apache update
For those who are into the old Apache race boats, I found one of them Saturday.
Boat is sitting on trailer in a garage at Guy LaMotta's marina in Port Washington NY. Latest news is that the top deck is getting fresh paint. This boat is AMAZING up close but whoever painted on the boats name, did a lousy job IMO!! And Storm, I could find out who did tomorrow. The lettering is great, but once you get your eyes about 12 inches from the paint, it looks like the paint is fading or not enough paint was applied. I'll try to get more pix tmrw. |
She's AWESOME!!!! More pics!!!

No Gail did not paint the current graphics

what is the boat running for power? what are the speeds?
have any interior pics? boat has a great history, it was one of the lightest and was 1/3 bens back up boat along with star chaser and the yellow warpath i believe it was built in 87 then headed to a lake out west after ben went away, then after that the real history was made with ed toth winning everything in it, even the worlds. that transom lifting eye is something Mr. Toth designed it ran through the cleat and was tig welded together for a clean look and bolted to the trim tab thruogh bolts. There used to be lots of little trick parts and pieces on that hull. i always admired that particular hull. Best of luck to the current owner. i am glad its up north in big water areas near star chaser...close to me, so maybe one day i can make a play. |

boat ran well in big water, it was set up for big seas...not all out speed. watch the apache dvd between island runner and pred in AC, that was a good race.
|
The poker run I took that one interior pic at was September 18th. The pictures inside storage are recent.

Last I seen the boat was the Championships in Keywest in 2006.... Ilmors were in at the time. That team was a blast to watch in the race, they waved every time they went by the grandstands, love those Apache's !!!!

Wrong boat. It never had Ilmors in it. The boat your thinking of could be the Predator Fountain which had Mercury 525's in it. Look forward to seeing this Apache run up here in the NE waters next year!
I know you're a walking encyclopedia of knowledge about this stuff compared to me, but are you sure about this? I have no idea about the power that was in it at the time, but I too very much recall this boat being at the championship in KY during 2006. I know I'm not thinking about the Fountain either. Again, no idea about the power it had at the time... Like yourself, I'm looking forward to seeing it up here!!! |
