I'd go with something mild like this. Paint the fairing to give it a lower profile look. Or maybe go with something crazy like the hammerhead 41 Apache. I love that paint job.

Until I blew that pic up I thought it was a model on a shelf  Thats one hell of a set up! Like the paint too. |

Yeah, everybody loves that photo. It is a 28 Apache, custom one off, twin diesels, trick swim platform pulls out either on rails or via hydraulics, can't remember. Could of been the last one built. Pretty sure it was also a 2002
|
I think that is Jim Moran's boat, the guy who owned South East Toyota and JM&A. This guy was loaded. I noticed the seats and engine hatch r differant then mine. The paint job is awesome. I saw a 28 footer a couple months ago that was for sale with a taller fairing, did anyone else notice it? I am 6'4" so I would love some more wind deflection. I have the flaps but they really dont seem to do anything for me.

My Attitude
You are probably refering to my old 28', I had my paint/ glass guy do the race fairing for me. Built it from 1/4 aluminum plate, then added 3 alum. wind laps on top, works extremely well -- I'm 6'3"--- The boat was bought by a friend of mine is routinely running the Lake Erie Islands. |

Here are some pics;
some after and during construction/mockup. |
We also moved the shifters, as i thought it was too tight for the starboard side shifter with the throttles right there -- just about became disasterous docking one time--
|
Not to highjack this thread--
Beautiful boat by the way-- but doies anyone know what the tender 28' was/is running for diesels and drives? |
Delsol it was your boat, I like that way it lookd. If I did that then I could put the heads up drive and tab indicators. I know what you mean on the docking thing with throttles and shifters next to each other, it is cramped.
WOW I show pictures of your boat like 2yrs ago. What a AWESOME MACHINE... SABER makes some really cool rigs. |

Yeah I spoke with Bobby right before I picked it up from Mel. Please send a pm with what u heard. I love it, AWESOME boat. I thinking about some graphics nothing to big.
He suggested contacting him if you have any questions about the boat or if you want some trim/driving suggestions. He was hoping Mel would have taken you out for a ride before turning the boat over. PS, he agreed with my drive/tab setting suggestions in an earlier post. :) Frank |
Panther thank you for the input. I will call Bobby this week, Mel gave me his number. I am still playing with the drive and tabs like you said. As far as Mel going out, Troy took us out before I took final delivery for a couple runs in Lake Winnebago. Mel didnt want to come because he was worried he would change is mind about selling it. I didnt want that either, been waiting a long time for this boat. I grew up around Mel's shop. My Dad had Mel build a bunch of motors and drives for his old boats. Our families are connected thru marriages. Mel and the boys are class act, without them I dont know what I would have ended up buying. I cant say enough GREAT THINGS about this boat. They out did themselves when they built this one. I have right about 17hrs on it now, still learning it. Next week I will changing the fluids. I talk with Mel once a week, he always answers the phone and always has the answers I am looking for. He is one AWESOME old school guy. Magnum Mark is another great guy, meet him at MR. MARINE in Fond Du Lac when we run it in Lake Winnebago. I think I did alright for a 33yr old guy that hasnt been boating in over 10yrs.
|
mtatt What was the name's of your dad's old boats?
|
my attitude- 1986 mach 1 condor. white/black and red. I know its an oldie but damn that thing crushd waves and was a lot faster then most people thought. I tried finding it about 2 yrs ago and came up with a couple dead ends. It had the condor on the deck which was rare, painted mach 1 logos on the hatch and sides of the hull.
Downtown you from Oshkosh? |
30 mi West of Milwaukee. Boated on Winnebago since mid '70's. Can't recall your dads boat.
Mel and gang are great, you got a sweet rig. GL |

Pretty cool story you got there. I met Magnum Mark several years ago in Long Island with his old 41' Apache. We wound up making a few runs out of Jones Inlet together! We're about the same age. I'll be 34 in September. Bobby has been really helpful in helping set up my boat over the years. Frank |
Downtown- Thank you. My Dad was very active in the Oshkosh Boat Club back in the 90s and early part of the 2000s. Dads Mach 1 was one of the first go fast style mach 1 back late 80s. We ran with 5 to 8 boats at any given time. After dad starting running his some of the guys started buying and running them, couple of the guys still have them. I miss running the river north thru Oshkosh to Frement then a lil further north, some great beaches up there on the river.
Panther- Thank you again, I am planning on doing just that this weekend. I figure that will make the learning curve a tad easier. I woud love a 36 but wife said it was a tad to big, 28 is still easy to trailer and run with less gas. I do have a couple questions about the 36 if you dont mind? Greg |
Panther- LOL I am turning 34 in September also. Funny ****. I would love to run in a 41 with a guy like Magnum Mark. I heard he is a crazy fun driver. The Riggs boys are crazy behind the wheel also.

Great pics Panther, Awesome. Lake Lanier really doesnt get big at all. Nice scenery and a ton of beaches but thats about it.
Panther and Baywatch- That is cool, your so right about the old school style. Growing up APACHE was the best of the best. Very rare and always sharp. If I didnt get this 1 I was looking at a couple Cig 28ss and couple Mystics and also a couple Pantera 28, non stepped bottom. Thank God Mel stepd in said something. I couldnt be happier with my final decision. Panther as far as the questions. 1) Do you know anything about the purple APACHE 36 sitting here in the Atlanta area? 2) I saw a couple pics and videos of stepd bottom APACHE 36, where did those molds go? Did Pantera get them? Their 36 survivor looks very similar. |
anybody?
|
myattitude, I dont' know much about the 36' in GA. It looks like it may need a new interior from the pics. The 800SC's and speedmasters are cool. I am sure Nykamp knows more about her.
As far as the stepped bottom 36' Apaches, Newtech started building them in ~1999-2000. I believe they may have built about 6. Bob and Eric built a few from 2000-2003. Pantera's 36' is not the same mold. Last I heard, McManus has the 36' molds. Good luck with your 28'. They are awesome boats. |
Thank you Hessdk. I agree the interior has to go, I also agree with the speedy3's and 800sc cool package. So they sublet the first of the stepped 36s?
I love my 28 more and more everyday... |
It's got a nice drive train, I had 2 with that set up. It's sat for years by Tonys C's shop the owner has a 42 Outterlimits and only run the 36 when the 42 is down. I would get a survey done if your looking to buy. I need a lot of paint work, or total strip down and repaint.
