Todd Owen's Apache - up your ante

Does anyone know what happened to an Apache called 'up your ante'? It was owned by Todd and Sally Owen and was kept in Maryland and Florida in the early 90's... Todd made a very big impact on my life back then... My dad owned a marina near annapolis and the boat was kept there during the summers... I lost touch with Todd when I went to college and he passed away before I could tell him how much he had impacted my life... He was a great man and was one of the early innovators of poker runs, especially on the Chesapeake bay... I would love to know what happened to the 41 that I spent so many hours working and riding on with 'Mr. Todd'... It's been two decades but I still miss his friendship and that incredible boat... Any information would be appreciated... Thanks, Scott

I believe it now has a big eagle and horses painted on it, it was for sale year ago by a guy on the east coast .

Thank you Nykamp!... I'd love to see it... If it is now or ever comes up for sale again, I would certainly be interested in knowing... Regardless, it good to hear that she's still out there... You never forget your first love and I sure did love her!

The graphics are awesome but not exactly my style... The lines of those boats are just killer though... Thanks northern offshore! ... Maybe one day I'll be get to be reunited with her... I'll have to see if I can dig up some old pics.. She used to sport white engines(supposedly so oil leaks could be easily spotted).. Todd Owen was a clean fanatic and I used to wax the bilge... Can't remember how many times I polished the headers cause it happened so often... I didn't mind waxing the hull and deck but wet sanding and polishing the speed master lowers with flitz was a m'fer... It was a great experience in the life of a then teenager... Todd was so 'clean' that he made me into a 'clean' freak... 'Clean enough' was not good enough.... Thanks for the information! Please keep it coming..

I was think it was originally Apache Pete's first 41, a 1987 maybe. Full pleasure side by side 750 with # 3 drives.

pretty sure its Ike's boat now all yellow called indian outlaw

Ike 07-13-2015 09:42 PM

It might have been mine, I saw a picture of my boat and the engines from back in the day and they were white and had tunnel rams and the original owners were from md. Also the boat was white.

Hlt5050 07-18-2015 07:25 AM

Thanks for the information guys.. Sounds like that's the boat I was wondering about... It was a 41' full pleasure w/ #3's and profile 1 engines.. I was worried that I would find out that it was 'gone'... It makes me feel great to know she's still out there...

Are you thinking Alter Ego?

Nykamp 07-20-2015 10:09 AM

Ike's was insane warrior when it was in Ohio area, some grey and blue on the sides.

Hlt5050 07-25-2015 12:39 PM

'Insane warrior' was kept on a lift next to 'up your ante' at my dad's place in the early 90's... It did have Greys and blues as I recall... 'Up your ante' was mostly white with red, black, and gold... I am trying to figure out how to post a picture but I am struggling with doing it from my iPad...

^^^^^ taking old school with that one. Just perfect; the colors, paint design, the logo etc. Talk about original Team Apache. :flag::champs:

The "Up Your Ante" 1988 41 Apache is a long time friend of mines boat. This Apache was the first offshore boat I was ever on in 95. The boat was originally ordered by Todd Owens. The Apache was then sold to George Gill in Oklahoma. My buddy John DeRay who we call "Tweet" bought the boat in Dec. of 94" and still owns today. The google searched picture in a previous post was a picture from John Cassatto website ipaintfx who was the artist who painted this Apache and also painted a 5' exact Apache RC replica. The Apache is still beautiful today and has always been ridiculously pampered. Tweet's Apache was named The Afton Express after a Towing and Auto body business he's owned for over 50yrs. and later a small edition to the name "Tweet's Revenge". It's a McManus Apache, full pleasure, Kevlar hull. Twin Pat Musi 572's built in 2000 and rebuilt in 2010. Crower cranks, Corrillo rods, Edelbrock heads, Jesel rockers, Nickerson 1050 carbs. Stellings dry exhaust. Speedmaster #3 drives, 10 plate transmissions, 3 blade cleavers. This Apache and John are legendary offshore to the New Jersey coast. I often thank him and or blame him for my offshore passion.

Scott, great story. I very much share the same relationship with Tweet that you had with Todd. He's had a big impact on my life also and we still enjoy boats together.

I had thought the boat had Tweets Revenge in the name but someone told me otherwise a few years ago. I guess I was right all along. :-)

Hasn't seen water since 12'. Tweet lost the house in Sandy. He spent much of 13' rebuilding the house. In spring of 14' he had a major health event which wiped out the 14' season and then decided to retire. We keep talking about running the Apache this year but hasn't happened yet. He's been spending a good amount of time this year running the sticks on my Outlaw.

Hlt5050 08-21-2015 08:07 PM

Too F'ing cool! I can't explain to you how important it was to me to know what happened to her... Thank you to everyone that answered me... I am so glad to know that that boat is still with us... Thank you 'Tweet' for taking care of her... Thank you too JerseyOutlaw!... I can tell you more about the early history of that boat... But I think the biggest thing that every body should know is that boat and MEN like Todd Owen and his friends, such as Phil Meshinsky are the ones that started the 'poker runs'... They were visionaries and in my option are unsung heroes... I was there and saw what they did first hand...
