This is such a harsh realisation for me !!!!!! I can finally afford to buy one, but I am petrified of the cost of major rebuild on the engines or the drives. I used to get by with a spare bravo 1 in the garage off craigslist for $1500 to $2500 . I just don't know what to expect from a #6 Drive boat. And #6 Props !! I'm not a "Drop it Off and fix it" budget !!!

honnestly, my triple 500 scares many
but since moh on the 3 engines
i think i only had to change 2 fuel pumps besides regular oil and filters

but in fact, triple big hp and number 6 must require bigger surprise budget than mine!

the biggest issue with the "later" boats was the weight, they were all built super heavy and they had to throw big power in them. (spirit of Apache was 26k lbs plus, firewater pleasure 47 was 28k lbs, Firewater 41 was about 16k from what i was told) the tech for engines now is light years ahead of where it was then, but then you get into the cost of a full rerig, similar to retro modding a muscle car. I am not a fan of the deck design on the commanches, i like the flat race deck style. even changing the blowers over to fuel injection would make it much more reasonable to run and operate. When Quick tempered 47 was converted to stagger twins, they ran 117 with 1100 Sterlings and put the boat on a diet.

Worst part about Apaches:

They cost a fortune to maintain, they cost even more to re-rig with new and then when you go to sell one you get a small fraction of your investment back.

Some people buy bigger things that cost way more and lose more when maintained and more when sold …..so..

Thanks for the Vid Speedy. Killer ! :thumbs

Last I saw of Clifford it was sitting for years needing power and drives refreshed.

Like my old man told me when I was a kid and he was all but giving away an old wood cruiser that I loved.

He told me. “Son, if I gave you that boat for free, you could not afford to own it”.

Never forgot that.

I’ve looked at 40-50 foot sailboats and powerboats the past year that I told myself if you gave me the boat and 20 thousand I still wouldn’t take it.

Nykamp 03-02-2024 07:49 AM

Last I heard it was no longer in the storage building in Coopersville but I have never been in there. Ben and my Glass guy told me this info.
