Interesting thread guys .... Pete .... I was reading your posts ... and knowing what was coming next .... I don't know too much about the Formula's except that my wife really want's a 400SS  ... Did the SeaRay thing for a couple years when our first boy came along ... thought it would be a cool way to get the whole "family" and friends out on the water ... YAWWWN  ... They are the sum of too many parts ... Drove me nuts !!!
Got caught up in the whole "Apache" thing in a round about sorta way .... the builder whom I was "in bed" with so to speak (had baught a few of their boats already) Saber , purchased the 41 molds and It was just the next "logical" (yeah right) step up in their line ... That was 1997... since then I've been in a handfull of the 41 "Apache" hulls along with the Cigs, Scarabs, Formulas, ect... The 41 hull seems to have the right "sweet spot' for most of the rough water running we encounter here in the Great Lakes ... and you and MM had the right idea about the pleasure/race version ... and WickedWon is a perfect example ... LESS IS MORE ... Unless your talking bulkheads and stringers ... Thanks for sharing ... I really enjoy watching your AllezVite running on the Freezeframe videos !!! JM |
Leo
Thanks. Great memories.
From what I've heard, your Saber is better than the original! |

Is It Me Or Are You Speaking Chinese In Post 51 |
Re: allez vite
Apache race boat, for sure!
For all of the obvious reasons. And I can only wonder what Allez Vite would do today with dry-sump 6's and 1500 HP Sterlings. If she went 104 with 1000's and wet-sump drives, I'd think she'd see 130 today, even without steps. Probably not a wise thing to do, without canopies, however! If that power were available 13 years ago, we could probably have beaten the 40 Skaters, even when it wasn't rough. Wouldn't that have been something? |

Re: allez vite
Pete,
There's a chance we'll be up your way around the time of SOTW and might be viewing the festivities, you wanna ride? I fully understand the difference between the 382 and a 41 as I went just the other way, started with a 382 and ended up with a 41. The 41 just seem to have that "offshore" ride that I had "envisioned" stuck in my brain that an "offshore" boat was suppose to ride like. Magnum, Wanna go across the lake to watch the SOTW festivities with Demi and I? Robert |

I believe it was Allez Vite or Warhawk that got the first pair of K drives from Fred Kiekhaefer. Going from memory on that one. Beautiful machines!

WARHAWK had the very first set of K drives installed, mine was built right along side of her but WARHAWK was done before mine.

WARHAWK and AV are both 1989's there sister ships . If J& H now Warhorse is a 1988 it did come with 6's when new.
|
I remember seeing Warhawk for the first time when it came home from the Apache factory and sitting at Pier 33 in St. Joseph and seeing those #6 drives hanging off the back end...and of course I always remember seeing Allez Vite out on Lake Michigan between St. Joe and Saugatuck somewhere.
|
Any updates on this boat?
|
She's getting ready for the water again. Bilge just freshened up at Advanced Marine Solutions in Muskegon. T&D just repainted the drive shafts covers and a a saddle tank. Chief/ Precision Power Offshore in Spring Lake Michigan is rerigging her next week.
