I have a friend in Topeka that has the last hull made I believe. It was apparently the 38 hull the owner made for himself, but never rigged it. My buddy bought it un-rigged with most of the parts, but has as of yet to assemble it. It's like a boat kit! :grinser010:

ROTAX454 09-21-2008 10:40 PM

Just curious, when did your friend take delivery of the 38 hull and parts?

to the best of my knowledge, here is a pic of the last 38 and 31 that was built at Awesome. The 38 was Warcat.

Couple of years ago maybe longer? I'm not sure on the last one built thing. It has been a while since I've talked to him. It was supposed to be the owner's personal boat. That much I do know.

The pics attached are him taking it to his newly finished house the other day. He has been building the house for a while, so no time to build the boat. Hopefully he'll be able to get to it now.

Hulls for sale or just the molds?

Careful on the 38, there was one that blew out the tunnel near the transom a few years ago. Took a wave bad near Gull Island and the tunnel near the back was gone. I talked to the marina staff and they said one in Chicago did the same thing.

Ran-dom knows the marina, it's right next to Harrison marine repo yard.

thumper038 09-30-2008 03:56 PM

The 38 in Chicago came apart just in front of the transom and sank on a poker run, towed to the shipyard up the Chicago river. I took pictures of it up close and inside for Jim Jones at the factory. I moved two times I will look for the pictures ?
We had one with 575 sc that ran on radar 102, It was great on Lake Michigan.
That said I like the boat design but the production of them was not equal !!!
So as far as blow out or delamination it is all up to who does the lamination scedule !!!
Also I think Dan still has the molds pm me and I will try to call him.

ROTAX454 09-30-2008 04:27 PM

What about these Awesome/Image 38's? Have wondered for sometime what the deal was with those hulls.

I heard the transom blowouts were caused by a design flaw, as in Awesome stretched a smaller cat but didn't make compensating changes to transom.

I think it was the owner of Vicious that told me this a few years ago.

That didn't take long!

I test drove one of your 32's with outboards, with one of your previous customers.

Nice boat, but my divorce from the hellion kind of shut down that purchase.

No, it was when I lived in Michigan, we launched at the end of I think 21 mile rd, few years back.

Whatever road your shop is on, at the end. Been a while since I've been around there.

I think it was #1 Vicious.

It's been a while since I saw snow. I moved to Tampa in 04 and never looked back, spending that much time in the house every year would make me crazy.

Now tow one of those cats to Tampa and I'll show you where the loose women hang out.

jimdarr40 10-14-2008 04:08 PM

If you want to buy any of the molds you can call me at 636 236-4141, thanks Jim

Seems like the right time to have boats painted. Mine is currently at Mitch Tolan's place getting some upgrades. If you need any interior work done, I can introduce you to the McLeod's. Their shop is right down the street from mine. If you didn't know already, they are still doing Awesome interior/sunpad work.

feline frenzy 01-13-2009 01:44 PM

thanks but i called mcleods and they wouldnt do any custom interior work,i had my back seat cut out and moved back 3 feet, and i purchased aluminum bucket seat frames from summint racing,im going with outboards so now i have lots of cockpit room and storage, and a seperate bathroom, now i need to find someone to make doors and a windsheild.

tssteph 01-13-2009 02:02 PM

I would like to see pics.

feline frenzy 01-13-2009 02:05 PM

ill post some soon as i get them from body man

tssteph 01-13-2009 02:10 PM

When I was looking at Chris Cats, Awesomes, and AO's the lack of room in the cockpit on an Awesome kept me from buying one. I found sever boats which I liked but I just could not get past the area between the front and rear seat. I had thoughts of moving the bulkhead that is in front of the motor back some but ended up finding an AO. I would like to see how it worked out for you.

I think I seen your 31 out at the Moot this summer? did'nt you have 525's for power? I know you mentioned something about some structural repairs you have done to your boat?? what made you decide to repower with OB's ? If its the same boat I'm thinking of, it had a really good looking paint already .... are you changing graphics?

Randy, Getting the race fairing re-shot. Did not like the design-----alittle dated. Mitch is also shooting the entire cockpit liner. Faded gel just didn't look right next to the new white paint around the ajoining area's. When I get it back to my shop, (primers is already been shot) I will get to the finish coat for the engine compartment. Then the fun starts-------assembly time. Any winter time projects for yours?

I talked to Michael today about business. He is reallllllllllly slow. I betting if you are still interested, you could haul your boat down to his shop and he would take on your interior project. I cannot say enough about his abilities, creativity. Did you know that he was a Chief Designer at one of the big Auto companies? Many breakthru interiors designs came as a result of Michael. Michael has forgotten more than many current boat interior people know. Nuff said.

Just doing a few little things, will be adding a GPS tatle tale speedo, kill switches, & Bblades going to work in a set of 34's that's about it

feline frenzy 01-14-2009 09:08 AM

no my cat was never powered,i bought a bare shell in late 06,spent a year redoing the layout, installing bulkheads, changing the balance point, had 75 gallon tanks made moved location back 2 feet, and pretty much buying all the goodies, and im going with outboards for the extra 3 feet of cockpit room, and the power to weight ratio,as it sits now my bare shell is just under 2000 lbs.i did everything in eglass and epoxy and having knee braces and floor and dash done in carbon fibre,so hopefully when its said and done it should scream,

feline frenzy 01-14-2009 09:18 AM

and rotax ill try mcleods again i do like their work it is top notch, they were just to busy doing sunsation at the time, but first i gotta see what my paint man comes up with??????????i cant wait, like a kid in the candy store, but thats still months away.

Ran-Dom 32 01-14-2009 09:59 AM

Sounds like a nice project your working on, keep posting on your progress, it's going to be a long winter - The 30 Skater your talking about is that LS7 boat? I will check it out in Miami -

feline frenzy 01-15-2009 06:21 AM

not sure if its the ls7 or not but one side is blue and silver with trible flames and the other side is blue with red and yellow honeycomb,

ROTAX454 01-20-2009 07:00 PM

My dyno guy has a new 30 Skater. He is going to use these short blocks as the platform for his new motors. One word: SWEEEEEEEET
