looking to buy a 31 awsome

I'm looking at a 31 awesome. '93 any ideas what it's worth? lightly modified 454's, fresh paint

STV92 12-08-2009 04:02 PM

Dude, need a little more information & pics would help.

Yes, we all know the market is poor & alot of deals for a buyer.

But, they are great rough water boats with alot of room under the deck. I love mine.

Pics,pics, would help.

Hours?
repainted?
New interior?
Which drivers?
& so on.

Ask the owner to take a digital picture (close-up) of the hull number. Located on the upper right corner of the transom. Post it here.

what year is yours, and what kind of power do you have in it? doesn't seem like much power in this one to hit 85mph?

STV92 12-11-2009 04:41 PM

454 running 85?
Your asking the wrong guy.

Mine is a 96 or 94 don't remember.
But, I run 3 225hp outboard motors.

Turning 28 pitch I'm running between 80-85.

Thats a good price, the only thing I don't like is the side to side seats on the right side.

I have seen that on the 26ft. but never the 31s ?
I thought all over 30ft were in the middle.
Thanks, I'm now less stupid.:lolhit:

Still, at that price, if the motors & drivers are good, buy it.

Keep us posted,

gowet4fun 12-12-2009 07:25 AM

I do know this boat was completely redun, he may have put a side by side in it himself. but I agree, not much fun with a dude sitting next to you. lol

You are asking alot of questions way ahead of getting some baseline info on the boat. Go get the Hull Number and do some research. You are right to question the speed number posted. Why? Because with that power and drive, it NEVER NEVER NEVER did 85.

news flash, all the front seating in a 31 is going to be side by side, whether the bolsters are shifted to one side or not

Good information Phil. Here is the USGC site for boat HIN information and recall notices.
http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/m...e&sort=company

Your 93 Awesome should have EWA as the first three letters within the Hull Identification Number. The purpose in getting the owner to produce the HIN would first verify the true boatbuilder.

Randy is correct. ANY true 31 Awesome will have side by side front cockpit seating arrangement. Really, both the 26 and the 38 do too. In fact, most Midwest/East Coast cat builders have side by side front seating. If that is a concern, you had better look for a West Coast cat builder. Eliminator, DCB, etc. have individual front seats separated by a walk thru area.

thanks for the websites. I will start trying to get the info from the hull number. I don't have a problem with the side by side, I have noticed most are like that, just never seen one on the starboard side like this one. this is a first cat look for me, I have been in v-hulls my whole life. but I heard these have alot of cabin space compared to most, I have 2 small kids that love performance boating as a family:bigbird:

The cabin area (although not that big) played a part in why I purchased my cat. The ladies HAVE to HAVE a place to store their stuff, change their clothes, #1 in private, powder their nose, make woopie in private, make lunch, blend some margaritta's, etc, etc, etc. More so with kids too. The cockpit area sure looks like some individuals handy work. Is not stock or factory in appearance. I am thinking something, but would rather just stay quiet until I see the HIN.

I owned a 2000 awesome...could have bought a 2003 for $64,000. PRICE SEEMS ABOUT RIGHT.

HAVE IT SURVEYED! THERE QUALITY WAS TERRIBLE THEN.

BOAT PERFORMS GREAT!

CHRIS-CAT, AMERICAN OFFSHORE AND AWESOME ALL HAVE TWO CENTER SEATS. VICIOUS CAT HAS TWO SIDE BY SIDE SEATS LIKE THE AWESOME YOU ARE LOOKING AT. THAT IS NOT A STANDARD SET UP. PAIN IN THE BUT TO GET IN AND OUT WITH SIDE SEATING. CABIN SPACE IS GREAT!

GREAT FAMILY BOAT! SAFE AND FAST. CATS GET 30% MORE SPEED AND 30% BETTER FUEL ECONOMY. ONCE YOU OWN A CAT YOU WILL NEVER WANT A VEE BOTTOM.

NOT TRUE DUDE...THE 27 FT AWESOME HAD SIDE BY SIDE AND EVERYONE HATED THEM. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A STOCK AWESOME WITH SIDE BY SIDE ON PORT OR STARBOARD.

VICIOUS CAT WAS THE 31 THAT HAD SIDE BY SIDE SEATING.
IT WAS A PAIN TO GET IN AND OUT OF...YOU HAD TO CLIMB OVER THE SEAT.

LOOK UP BOAT REGISTRATION NUMBER. ACTUAL DATE OF MANUFACTURE PROVIDED.

CALL MERCRUISER WITH DRIVE NUMBER, TRANSOM NUMBER( GYMBALS AND HOOK UPS) AND ENGINE NUMBER.

THEY MAY HAVE COME OFF ANOTHER BOAT OR HAVE NEVER BEEN REGISTERED AT ALL.

MY 31 WITH 500 HP RACING ENGINES NEVER SAW 90 MPH. THAT BOAT WOULD HAVE TROUBLE HITTING 72 MPH.

I have Gen 6 Big Block Blower motors making 750 hp each on 93 pump gas with IMCO extention boxes and IMCO Shorts and 5 blade herrings making 105 at 5000 rpm- I spent a lot of $ to make the lead sled heavy mother do the 100mph trick- you r lucky to get 95 with your rig-

JB you have spent the time AND coin to go that fast. And it will/should for a long time to come. It's amazing what we do to make these things a little faster.

tssteph 06-29-2010 02:23 PM

JB, How heavy is your boat?

I don`t think your motors make a REAL 750HP! Did you have them on the dyno?:drink:

YES! of course I did- six hours each to set up and dial in- and the actual max HP i got was 735 but why be picky? HP depends on a lot of ever chainging factors such as air temp- ambient pressure and boost. Hell I could make 1500 HP if I wanted to! My engine life expecency would decline dramiticaly if I did use that much boost but it is possible to do it if I did not care about the motor longevity!

I don't know, but it is a heavy monster and that is why I love it. The weight gives stability at speed and a lot of mental comfort in rough water!

jbbeard 07-03-2010 05:10 AM

ANY one with a 31 AQ ever have leak in gas tank? I just developed one and think I am gonna have to remove the port tank for repair. Any body ever do this? I would welcome helpful advice about the procedure if it has ever been done by a member- thanks - James
