31 awesome cat problematic areas?

Going to look at a 1995 31 awesome cat this weekend. Just wondering if there's any certain things I should look.for or check that are known to these hulls

Check under the hatch to make sure there is more than 600hp per side or you will be disappointed with the ride. :lolhit:

I had an A/O with 500 efis and had to drive it 3/4-WOT to keep it above the porpoise zone.

Which one are you going to look at?

Phil, Do not remember. Did your Awesome have IMCO extension boxes?

Back to the original question. Get a complete hull professional survey. Motors, outdrives, etc. vary from boat to boat. I believe your question is more specific to the hull manufacturer. So I will keep my comments to that.
1) If you intend to drive aggressively. The sponson noses need to be fully tabbed.
2) For hulls (believe prior to 2000) that have a flat sub-floor in the cabin sponson area's. Drill access holes both in the cabin and cockpit area's to access the pumps and to insure/inspect for proper water flow from the front sponson area to the rearward area's.

If anyone has anything else, please do chime in. BTW. Phil is correct.

Early awesomes where heavy and some of the glass work was lets say so so.
Later boats from about late 1999 were better but like rotax said have it checked out.
If you can find a later model boat and don't want be the fastest guy around the 500 hp engine package is really good and low maintenance factor .
Just as a example they did one with 454 300 hp and it went low 70"s
The early boats with big power and speedies most weren't very fast
Most of all have it looked over good and go for a really good sea trial don't trust the bs speeds and handling that can be thrown at you.
Most later awesomes with the 500 package that's not tired and that are not water logged and propped right will run low 90 mph

I ended up buying a very clean 28 tall deck daytona from havasu. Think I'll be alot happier with it in the end

I think you made the correct call, you will be happier! no personal experience with either boat but my dumb opinion thru my blind eyes.
