starter replacement
Any body got any (good) ideas on how to change starboard starter in 94 32 Caliber. Access doesn't look good!

Remove the exhaust manifold,
that should get you enough room. |

cut a 12" X 12" hole below the starter in the hull. After replacing the starter get back to us on how to re-glass the hole in the hull.

im laughing my a** off with the replies but you guys are cruel,now that we are on the topic i gotta say that i hate working on the 24,it really sucks and there is no room for anything so i imagine a twin setup is even worse but what i would do is what jt29 said,remove the exhaust manifold and it might give you some clearance,im doing the bilge pump now and it sucks.

well 342, another way would be remove the boat from the drivetrain, but that may take awhile...

I would not pay someone to do the water pumps. The more you do them the easier they are to do.
We changed on out on the 35 Fountain I was on in the Florida Keys month before last in less than thirty minutes on the starboard engine in the water! The first time I changed one out was on my 272 and it seemed impossible. Took over an hour. Then I got the 36, and now it is a combination sea water pump / fuel pump with an extra gasket and you have to change the oil in it. I don't even think about it anymore. We carry a spare kit with us at all times! After you have had the hoses off one time, they come off easier the next time, you just losen the belt, pull off the two hoses, take three bolts off and presto! Take the pump to your work bench, replaced the plastic housing and impeller, repeat the above steps in reverse order and your are done! Put the extra $75.00 per pump the dealer would charge in your pocket for gasoline. If I can do it anyone can do it. |
