muffler extraction
 

So how in the crap do you get these stock mufflers off or out that come stock these days on Bajas? I drilled out the circular baffle deal and was trying to work my way to getting the mufflers out but there is a weld in there?....whew.....what does that nut keep tight if I were to take it off? I want them gone but wanted to see if anyone else had tackled this first?

From what I have seen most people don't end up successfully taking the mufflers apart, you could drill the baffles with a hole saw, but would need a really good bit. The easiest way if you do not want the mufflers is to switch the tips, that is what I did on mine, but kept the mufflers, in case I need to put them back on. These sound laws are spreading fast through out the country. :( :(

Take them off completely and replace with nice tips!!!!!!!!!!

That is the only way. Save the mufflers for on day when you will need them!

Okay,

My dealer is recommending I get tips with the rubber flappers on them. I don't like the look. I think Corsa makes a stainless tip with an angled end, with an internal flapper. Any opinions on wether they are a good replacement that will also keep out the back-wash. Thanks for feedback.

Your dealer probably wants to get rid of something he has in stock, or he is just living in the dark ages!

I replaced my mufflers right away with the Eddie Marine angled tips with the internal flappers and ran them three seasons. They still look brand new!

Just replaced them with straight dry pipes dumping the water at the end and they have no flappers!

You will not have any problems.

The first shot is with the stock pipes, the first day we had the boat in the water.

I guess it's one thing if you can see them like the Baja's with a pipe platform...but I run both internal and external flappers on integrated platform boats. Doesn't hurt a thing, and gives twice the protection.
A shot of cold water will snap a hot exhaust valve like a twig!

If anyone else is familiar with the Corsa tip, with internal flapper please chime in. That's the beauty of this board. Getting it from people who have real live experiences.

Dock, does that mean your "like new" Eddie Marine tips with flappers are available?

No sorry, I'm keeping all the stock exhaust equipment in case the laws change, or I sell the boat to someone that does not enjoy music like the wife and I do.

They are not expensive, around $125.00 per pair.

Try Fred "TOO OLD" at Trick Marine also.

My buddy took a plasma cutter and easily gutted his Corsa Tips. Sound great.
