Question for you Baja guys

My buddy is interested in getting his hands on a early 2000's 33 O/L. Mainly for the stable solid ride due to the nasty rough water we run on. He 's heard alot of talk and I hope you guys can give a no B.S. answer. almost 99% of all early 2000's 33's have either 496 mags or HO's where are the boats with the 500's 525 and 575SC options? Did Baja limit their production or did no one order those motors. I know the bigger motors are the obvious choice for that size boat but why cant we find any 525's or 575's. If we have to settle for a 496 HO or Mag what is speed have you guy's seen out the box? I was hearing mid 70's (sounds high for me but it's lacking a big fat gold chain for wind deflection) :drink: :drink: ) Nevertheless i'm sure he set on getting one with the biggest he can find or just pull the 496's if they cant get-r-done. Thanks in advance Baja dudes for any advice..

Re: Question for you Baja guys

You must run LOTO, about the roughest water around ST.louis. My friend has an 01 with HO's and it ran 73 gps when I was with him, he said he has seen more ibut I haven't. Nice boats though, Lots of room and a good ride.

Re: Question for you Baja guys

Most are equipped with either
502's, or the later models, 496HO's.

A friend of mine has a 99' with 502's,
light on gas and light on people, it
will run 70.

The 496HO boats run a tick faster.

The 04' boats have the pad bottom,
I've heard 72-75

I've seen several pre 2000's with "blue motors",
I think one was even in St. Louis, if I recall.

I've driven and ridden 33's down at LOTO,
and they do all right running through the
"washing machine"

Theres a 342 with a wind screen. pretty much the same boat with 525's at www.skidock.com

seems on the high side for price though.

I know you said he is looking for a 33 but hey so was I and I ended up with a 36 and love it. The 36's ride is awesome at LOTO.

My 2000 with 502s runs 70ish with Bravo 4-blades, around 72-73 with Mirage + 3-blades.
Friend of mine has a 2004 with HOs, and runs mid-70s with 4-blade Bravos.

Re: Question for you Baja guys

Thanks again. We needed to hear it from a non sales pitch and we missed those for sale in IL.
BTW my hat is off to that boat after riding in a 33. In my book anything after 70 is respectable and driving it we did not have to come off the throttle when a 4 footer came our way. As for me I may also hang up my gold chain later when time comes. You cant deny the prices of a 2001 33 O/L to a 2001 35 Lightning. Safety before speed, a 35 lightning can tear up the water but it doesn't feel as stable. My 2 cents.
Thanks.

Re: Question for you Baja guys

You are right on saying 99% of 33's have black motors. The fact is everybody wishes they had the blue motors but the upcharge seems to stop eveybody cold. When I bought my 2001 I bit the big one and opted for the 500 efi's. The extra 30000 was well worth it in my opinion but most people buy the 33 with 496 h.o.'s, save the 30000 bucks and piss and moan about not going fast enough. :evilb: :evilb: :D :D

Re: Question for you Baja guys

If you can't find one with blue motors, why not look into something like what Raylar has to offer. It is my understanding that it is reliable hp, and a lot cheaper than blue motors.

I can't see the blue motors when they are going around me anyway. :D And I for one am not happy unless I have something to piss and moan about :drink: I do love my 33 though.

I have a blue motored 2000 model 33 Outlaw for sale in the classified section here. Fasten a couple short blue neon lights to the stringers under each engine and just sit and drink beer at the dock and admire them...saves on gas. LOL
