Props for a 342?
A friend of mine has a 2001 342 with 502's that came with
26p four blades. What props work best with this boat? Seems like 24p four blades would be better, struggling to get even close to 5000 rpms. Thanks. |
Re: Props for a 342?
Dave, I have the same boat. It came from the dealer with 24p 4 blades. Was hard to plane and spun the rpms almost over 5k with no results. Talked to Baja and they said the boat should have the 26p 4 blades. Had them change them out I was alot happier. Also if he needs advice how to change the water pump impellers let me know. I did it this weekend what a job!!!!

Re: Props for a 342?
Dave,
I have a 2002 342 w/ 496HO's that came with 26P Bravo 1's. Get your props labbed and you'll be good to go. Hey Frank, Let me in on the secrets to changing the water pump impellers. The only way I see to do it is to stand on your head or cut out the backseat or pull the motors. Any help or advise will be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff |
Re: Props for a 342?
Jeff,
I removed the back seat base. To do this, I disconnected the batteries and all the switches under the seat. On mine all the cables went through the back into the engine compartment. You'll need to push them through. On mine the stereo amps where mounted next to the batteries, drop them down and there should be an access opening. Reach in and find the stud and nut holding the armrest on, remove that one, there are two more you can get from inside the side storage compartments. This will allow you to remove the arm rests. Once this is done you should have 4 screw on the floor and three screws at the bottom of the base in the engine compartment Remove them. This will allow you to remove the floor and the back seat base. This is one unit and kind of awkward you'll need some help. I was never able to get the top part of the backseat rest off, I just worked under it. When you remove the floor and base you'll have a clean shot to the pumps. If you or anyone else kind find an easier way please let me know. Frank |
that is a HUGE piece to remove, and replace just for pumps. has to be an easier way.. bumping thread for info purposes.

Not familiar with the 342 but is it possible to maybe cut in some inspection plates through the back seat under the seat cushion??? Or maybe hinge the back seat somehow so all you need to do is flip it forward to do the engine maintenance.. just throwing out ideas I have no idea otherwise...:cartman:

cutting a hole, and mounting hinges might would work...
