Sneak Peak "New Baja 405"

1 Attachment(s)
As most of you know the 38 Special is being replaced by the new 405.

Looks to be an awesome boat. I do not know anything else about it.

If any of you have additional details please post them.

It resembles a formula.

Looks to me like Sea Ray's influence. Especially the vents. We just traded in the 33 and bought a Sundancer. I can see a number of similarities.

Like the new deck, but portholes..come on. Also, Formula windshield has to go. It had to go ten years ago on Formulas. Put a boss windscreen on and your getting there. I like the cockpit layout in the 38 special...u-shaped rear lounge and wet bar with fridge hope they keep that.

jt-- what did you do with the 29?

Re: Sneak Peak "New Baja 405"

Damn, that's ugly. Take off the Sea Ray swim plaltform, off with the windsheild, on withthe windscreen, some graphics, and it would help.

Re: Sneak Peak "New Baja 405"

You have to wonder, why they think they have to compete with Formula. Just how many of those do you see?

Not a fan either

I think you guys might be missing the point...It's a sport cruiser, not an offshore boat. Looks good for what it is. I'd pimp it! :drink:

Tank is smarter than we give him credit for!!! :drink:

It is what it is, and should be a big hit with a lot of folks.

Keep in mind that Baja offers a larger line up than anyone else in the industry.

Stick with the series you like best!

By the way, I'd like to see the inside of it. The Formula that they are trying to compete with is plush! And I really like that new pearled blue/green the new Formula has. Great color.

How tall/deep is the cuddy in this boat? Can a 6 footer stand up in it?

I think it looks good for what it is, I think that it could be a showstopper with the right graphics, a wind screen and some big power..........sleeper in the making.

Plus whats better than a fast boat with a nice comfortable place to pass out and plenty of room for orgies. :D :D

Re: Sneak Peak "New Baja 405"

put a pair of 800 plus hp motors in it and it would be a nice cruiser! :D

I don't think that some of us are missing the point. I just don't understand why they would take styling cues from Sea Ray on a boat such as this. I loved the looks of the old 442 and the 38 special, but this is too close to a Sundancer from the back. I like the front of the boat, but the back does not fit in my opinion.

Re: Sneak Peak "New Baja 405"

Sea Ray called, they want their cruiser back...

I dont like it either, if Baja wants to compete with anyone, R&D department should be working on a stepped hull and compete with other performance boats in any length. My .02...

Re: Sneak Peak "New Baja 405"

when was the last time baja competed with anyone? they have their niche, they need to stick with what works....

Rippem 06-15-2005 09:38 PM

Re: Sneak Peak "New Baja 405"

They can't...

wrong demographic for Baja...

they offer value for what they are, but Baja will never take the aspiring or existing Formula prospect into thier camp boat-for-boat.

Just won't happen

Rippem 06-15-2005 09:41 PM

Re: Sneak Peak "New Baja 405"

it looks like a Sundancer because manufacturing is being shared amongst facilities...

can you say "Brunswick" :p

Re: Sneak Peak "New Baja 405"

I don't know if I really like it. The swim step doesn't look right.
I don't think it will compete with the Formula SS series, it will blow away the SS series. The SS boats are much slower. Top speed on an SS is about 57. A .38 special can be equipped with twin 575 sc.

Bring back the 420 stepped. That was an awesome Baja.

thisistank 06-15-2005 09:52 PM

Re: Sneak Peak "New Baja 405"

I don't think Baja ever wishes to take existing or prospective buyers away from anyone (I'm sure if it happens they don't mind) but I think they go to the niche customer that wants better money value (i.e. less cash for what you get). Alot of people that are looking at sport cruiser's (or any other style boat in the Baja line up) will compare dollar to dollar and see that there is a great dollar value with Baja. Alot of people cant afford to throw down 500k on a sport cruiser. This is where Baja comes in...

What's the cost of this thing anyway?

Not for me.

Re: Sneak Peak "New Baja 405"

I would bet it runs around $185K - $210K depending on options.

Re: Sneak Peak "New Baja 405"

Hey Tank, it is all good brother. Glad to see you understand what this boat is all about.

Personally I think it is very cool. I cannot wait to see more pictures of the cockpit and cuddy. I hear it is FIRST CLASS.

Rumor has it that the Baja folks may dump the windshield, I don't think they are very happy with that look either.

As for Sea Ray, I do not see the Sea Ray influence in this boat. They just make cruisers, this looks more like a performace boat to me. I know that Baja really does not want their boats looking like Sea Rays, what would be the point?

Doc

I would say that would be a damn good price if it is as nice has I hear it is!

Based on the other boats in this class and size that is cheap.

Re: Sneak Peak "New Baja 405"

I would like to see more photos. I do like the port holes in it. I have a 1995 236 model and it has port holes and with two kids they will play in the cuddy and look out the port holes and also look out the hatch. With the port holes it does left more air flow in the cuddy. I even asked Baja why they stopped putting them in and I was told because they leak. Not sure if I believe that, mine doesn't but if they are open the spray from hitting wakes will come in a little. I woundn't mind seeing them put them in the 275. I hope to move into a 275 next year.

Re: Sneak Peak "New Baja 405"

I got to see the boat in person the other day and I have to say all in all it is sweet. I don't care for the fins either but the interior and the cocpit are sweet.

The interior has a 25" flatscreen full shower and in the very front the boat has a lounge chair like a lazyboy complete with beer holders, it is the greatest thing I have ever seen in a boat.

The engine compartment is very clean and easy to acces most stuff. Alos the rear seat come up wth the hatch so that you don't have to lean over it.

So far the boat tops out at 62 with full fuel. 230gal and 4-5 large men on it with HO's and they have not played with the props yet. You will be able to get the boat with up 600's in it or large yanmar diesels.

They are going to change some things but this thing is a Cadilac.
