Re: Sharing the 29 OL upgrades
Thanks Dock! I loved your thread by the way, your boat looks great!

Re: Sharing the 29 OL upgrades
Nice. Glad the TV worked out for you. Hope I helped in some way.
I need to get some more subs in mine. 2-10" runnig 400 watts each is just not enough. Where did you end up putting the amps? 1/2 of the pictures on my end are not showing up. |

Jason,
Yes, you did help. Thank you. I left the original clarion amp in the port side closet. It drives the 6 speakers (4 6.5 polks in the cockpit and 2 6.5 clarions in the cuddy) and then I bought a 1100 watt Memphis marine amp ($$$) that drives just the Polk subs. I mounted it under the rear bench. I can adjust the bass power separate from the other speakers this way. I am very pleased with the performance. |
Re: Sharing the 29 OL upgrades
BlewbyYou,
Did the boat come with the round table or add on by you. I like it. I think that would work out when pinic'ng. Upgrades look sweet!!! Dennis |
Re: Sharing the 29 OL upgrades
Bowtye8,
Table came in the boat...I believe it is from the factory. It is pretty nice to have at times and then you can remove it whenever you need the room. You may be able to order it from Baja or I think you can even get different styles out of overtons. |
Re: Sharing the 29 OL upgrades
How did you wire the amp. You use the second set of RCA's off teh amp and the others went to teh closet amp for the 6.5's??
I am getting ready to mount my subs this weekend. Why didnt you space the subs father apart? What did you use to cut the circle.. SawZaw or Jig saw? Thanks Dennis |

Thanks Dennis Correct, I used the second set of cables that came off the head unit to go to the amp that drives the subs. And actually I mis stated the wiring on the 6.5's...the 4 in the cockpit are driven by the sub in the closet and the 2 speakers in the cuddy are direct off of the head unit. I think all the Baja factory stereos are wired this way.(my 25 OL was same) As far as the sub location...that is where they fit for me. The amp is mounted on the same surface so that dictated the spaceing from the side. I had a friend that installs stereos for a living tell me that the spacing wouldn't make much difference in performance with the bench seat set-up. I cut the holes with a sawzaw. not to bad. I drilled a few holes around the inside edge of the circle I marked, to relieve the cut every so often. Total install was probably 3 to 4 hours. What subs did you go with? Good luck! Post some pics when you get it done |
Re: Sharing the 29 OL upgrades
Thanks for all the info. I hooked up a few car stereos in my day. But trying todo this right the first time :drink:
I went with Kicker CVR10. Comp VR series. They are marine ready so should stand up to the salt water environment....I hope. Still have to purchase the 6.5's Liking the polk 6.5 series you have. I would like to put my amp in the same place as your . Easier wiring . Pwr right there. Just run some RCA's from the radio to the bench area. My amp in not marine ready. Older Kenwood. May get destroyed in that area. Wet etc.. from washing. Dennis |

Re: Sharing the 29 OL upgrades
I would think it would fit in one of the closets. The pole under one of the seats. Good question

Re: Sharing the 29 OL upgrades
How does your system really sound?
I just finished my sub install. The free air subs dont seems to hit that hard. |
Re: Sharing the 29 OL upgrades
What free airs did you install? I have a friend who put in 4 10" JL's & they POUND! I'm going to put in 4 in my 29 somewhere? I just need to find somewhere to put them.
|
Re: Sharing the 29 OL upgrades
I installed 2 Kicker 10" CVX subs. Quality subs just seems not to be teh right amp. I will use that amp to power 4 polk 6.5's in the cockpit and then get another amp for the subs. What amp you running for your subs?
|
Re: Sharing the 29 OL upgrades
MTX 1600 watts, I forget the model number. It is designed for the 7500 series speakers. I run 7510 subs thet are 400 rms 800 max each.

I've seen the pictures of your boat of the various speakers and I'm impressed. |
Re: Sharing the 29 OL upgrades
Thanks!
I did not use marine amps because my boat does not get wet inside & even if it did they are tucked under cover so they shouldn't get wet. I have heard the 6.5's & I will probably have some for my boat before summer gets here if this Whipple project doesn't get out of hand  ....like that hasn't happened already! |
