Why can't I sell?
Ive been trying to sell my 2002 29 Outlaw with twin 496 HO's for about 6 months. Theres not a scratch on it and it only has 70 hours on it. It has every possible option from BAJA. Latham hrydraulic steering, POLK AUDIO, everything. Its been a fresh water boat and Im the original owner. It doesnt have a trailer but I can get one if somebody needs one. I dont understand why im having a hard time selling it. ITS FLAWLESS! Im trying to upgrade to a Top Gun but want to dump this one first.
Do you think im overpriced? http://www.offshoreonly.com/esvon/files/9093_8.jpg http://www.offshoreonly.com/esvon/files/9093.jpg http://www.offshoreonly.com/esvon/files/9093_9.jpg http://www.offshoreonly.com/esvon/page-9093.html |

Re: Why can't I sell?
I don't think your price is out of line for what it is worth at all. I simply think that the market sucks right not and short of giving it away you will probably have to hold on to it. I am in the same boat (no pun intended) with my 2001 302.
Earlier this year a 2000 36 with 500's, trailer and a bunch of accessories sold for under 70K   . I don't see higher end used boats going anywhere for quite some time. Oh yeah I have personal friend that is a dealer and he just sold a brand new 2004 29 ol with a trailer and Ho's for under 90K out the door. |
Re: Why can't I sell?

Re: Why can't I sell?
I'd love to be in the market for your boat right now. But after dropping $400 for gas between Friday and Saturday on a single engine boat it's unlikely I'd make that move. I imagine that I'm not the only one balancing the desire for bigger/faster with rising fuel costs :(

Re: Why can't I sell?
Not to mention the Feds have not helped things out by raising rates every month for the last year. We have had 12 (.25) adjustments in the last 14 months. .25 is not much, but twelve of them is. Gas, maintenance, interest,... The market sucks.....One critical option the boat needs is cockpit carpet. Table would be nice too. It is a nice boat though......

Re: Why can't I sell?
Boat looks clean. Yes tuff market right now. I just purchased a 2003 29OL w/HO's for that price.
Any takers? MAy get some low offers of 70-72K. Good lick in your sale.. Why the brand switch. How about a bigger baja. 33 or 35/36?? |

Re: Why can't I sell?
Its a buyers market right now,you either have to wait for the "right buyer" or keep reducing the price of your boat until your literally giving it away. Is your price fair, definately, will it sell at that price, obviously it isn't. A buddie of mine had a clean.low hour 2000 29 ol (with base motors ) took him 2 years to sell,he got 55,000 for it over a year ago after reducing price several times and spending thousands on advertising. Ran a E-bay ad,didn't sell BUT someone bought it from seeing the ad,Smitty

Re: Why can't I sell?
ill tell you right now. if i was in the market to be buy a 29 i would be calling you now. your boat looks great but its like everyone says. its not a sellers market. you got a great boat with good motors and low hours and it looks great.(need a trailer). but ill tell you that if i was going to buy i would low ball you and i wouldnt go much higher hopping for you to cave. but stick with it you are going to find the right buy6er.. good luck

Re: Why can't I sell?
I preach this every time... You have to remember you are selling a high ticket item. You have to put this boat on display. Please don't take offense but your pictures don't do anything to create interest on your boat. Spend the time and take some good quality, hi res pictures of the boat off the lift, in the water, in action. Something interesting and clear. Clean out the v-berth and take better pictures. Imagine a dealer selling this boat... most wouldn't have a v-berth full of a bunch of crap. Put the best photo you have as your leading photo... so it's the first photo someone sees. Make it interesting and make sure it's clear and big.
Your boat appears to be all stock, so you are competing with every other stock boat out there. You might want to consider spending a little money on some "bling" for it just to set it apart. Bezels, Cup holders, vinyl graphics, etc. $200-300 could get you a lot. Next question is...Where are you listing it? Hands down EBAY is a must. Again the same thing applies with the pictures. Spend the extra $5 and have 12 high res interesting pictures posted. I don't get why someone won't spend an extra $5 bucks when trying to sell a $50,000 item. It's happens all the time. FINALLY... the key is... to remember, you are not trying to necessarily sell it on EBAY, you are trying to put it on display. And EBAY has the traffic. If you do get your asking price on EBAY then great, but most of the time people will call you. People who are truly interested will find you. I've sold 2 Baja this way in less than 3 months. And got my asking price each time. It's all sales & marketing...give it a try. |
Re: Why can't I sell?
Thats a good looking boat.
|
Re: Why can't I sell?
My opinion is the price is a little high without a trailer. When people want to buy something you want to hook up and be done. Not go looking for a trailer and hope it is the right one exedra....People want to buy cool add on shi$ after buying a boat.

Re: Why can't I sell?
Go ahead and get a trailer under it. That was a big issue for all the buyers when I was getting rid of my boat.
I spent 1 yr trying to sell a 1yr old 25outlaw. I ended up selling it for 20k less than I paid for it new. I would have been better off takng the first serious offer instead of sitting on it for a year and getting that same amount. |
Re: Why can't I sell?
Bluebyyou is so right. The pictures are killing it, not the price! Trailer would be a great help, though.
Good high res pictures: 1. Front 3/4 view from low on the water (boat looks long), 2. Rear 3/4 view from high angle (see the cockpit, boat on trailer nice babe standing next to the boat - boat looks big and roomy ), 3. Dashpanel from above, not too low 4. Cabin - clean but with a folded towel or something to show that its not a catalog shot (- but not, as often happens, with five life jackets and a boat hook!) 5, 6.most important - under the hatch - good clean well lit shots of the motors and ANY high performance features - seastrainers or billet drive reservoir.... 7, 8. nearly as important - transom, with maybe detail shots of props and of steering rams. Great boat, My favourite graphics, too. Good luck. |
Re: Why can't I sell?
I would also agree with the trailer deal...I just bought a 29 this year and actually passed on another before I bought the one I did, because it didn't have a trailer and I didn't want to hassle with having to try and get one that fit the boat. I understand that you probably don't want to spend more money on something you are trying to sell, but you really limit the buyers your'e going to find by not having a full package.
Very nice boat! How long have you been trying to sell? I would also agree with the picture advice, put as many GOOD pictures as you can afford. Hope this helps. |
Re: Why can't I sell?
How long have you been trying to sell? Looks like the OSO add has been run since February. Not much I can add to the above. You have a nice boat, decent asking price, but I agree the lack of a trailer for that type of boat will hinder the quickness of the sale. I just listed my 245 for sale, but in this market, I doubt it will sell very quickly. I am wanting to move into either a 29 Outlaw, or something along the lines of a 30 Concept. Good luck. |
Re: Why can't I sell?
Are you only advertising on OSO?
If so you have a VERY limited market. You need to use boat trader online, EBay and even a local broker. I have two buddies that did not sell their boats on ebay, but they found their buyers on there and made the deals happen. Now is the time. |
Re: Why can't I sell?
Good point Doc!
Try www.boatshop24.com - and sell the boat to Europe. They will truly love that boat! |
Re: Why can't I sell?
...and the Europeans donīt want a US trailer. We canīt get them registered here without a complete rebuild. I sold my Eagle when it came under my Outlaw.
|
Re: Why can't I sell?
Thanks for all the help guys. Im gonna take some more pics this weekend and post it up on Ebay.
Thanks again. |
Re: Why can't I sell?
I would also try www.boattrader.com , thats were I bought my last two boats from.

Re: Why can't I sell?
I've got a friend that bought a 2002 29 OL w/ 496's & 72 hrs a few months back for $53k. The higher end more expensive boats will be tough to move in this environment and chances are it's not going to get too much better for quite some time. Really stinks!!!!
