AT, sorry to hijack your thread, but I have a very similar setup (similar at least to your 509) and can't break 80 with it. I was hoping for a little advice...
Boat is a 98 Baja OL 25 with a 680hp 557. I have an XR with a stock 26p Bravo prop and in 55 degree air on calm water, I run 77mph @ 5700rpm consistently. I'm afraid that I'm going to lose a couple hundred rpm when I get the boat in summer air. Also, did you ever consider adding k-planes to help with the chinewalk over 80? I've been told this is a smart move for my boat, but don't want to drop the 3k on a mod I haven't seen work. Again sorry to hijack your thread and hope you'll excuse the n00bish questions... |

I WAS RUNNING in the river at 80 gps and 83.2 on the bay. the big different was when I went from the 850 bg carb to a custom nickerson 1050 plus a 2'' imco shortie rpms were from my view 5800 to 6000 rpm. I had to fight the chinewalk the whole tome from 77 up by sawing the wheel:eek:. but I loved it ,with a 28 or 30 Iam sure it will hit 85. but its a part and I am finishing the 28 saber with 1100 hp and konrad drive now. that should run over a 100. its all custom built light only one piece of plywood and thats in the transom sandwiched with balsa coring which is what the boat has. I have had glass men look at it the way this was built its a tank but not heavy. they have a deep X to which slows the boat down. wild card from here had a 25ol with a 3'' ext box by imco =525 merc he got 81 with a 28 b1 at 5300 I think. his best was with adding a 1 '' shortie drive too. once you try a 2'' shortie or 3'' imco ext box you will break 80. wild card ended up with a 600 merc and was at 87 or 89 gps 32b1 prop. 25ol is a great boat. ps the gear case on the imco is longer than the merc, my friends sutphen with 900 hp is running 94 now his propshaft is 3 3/8'' below the keel with no box, mine will be about 3'' with the konrad box. any Qs fire away art

Have you tried a 28P Bravo ot a 27P M+? I would think you need a different prop to get there or even lab the one you have. Also what is your prop shaft height in relation to bottom of boat?

Sorry I've been a no-show for the last couple of months. With the birth of my little girl and the abnormally cold winter here, the boat has been out of sight, out of mind.
I got the 26p Bravo from Brett at BBlades, with the assumption that when weather permitted further testing I'd be sending it back for labbing and some other tweaks. He tells me I need some more bow lift, which he plans to build into the prop. I've been told that there are substantial gains to be had with either an extension box or a shortie, but hear so much conflicting information on each. What are your thoughts. I am currently running a stock XR. |

I got 80mph on the stock 26p today at 5800rpm on a fairly busy local lake. I feel like the bow lift and labbing will net me a couple additional mph and I'll be really happy with the combo.
Thanks for all your feedback everyone |
great to hear your at 80 theres more there, about k planes yes I have 280s and 380s . I AM GOING TO TEST MY NEW RIDE THE SABER 28 I change the x from 14'' to 17 1/2'' on it.should be in the water next few weeks. it has a box on it. the imco 2'' shortie by imco is the best. you get better handling from it.
