36 outlaw ?

Thinking of getting a 36 outlaw. I've seen some out there with the HP 500 power.
Can some of the 36 guys give me some insight on the speeds they got from their boats with the 500 power. I've done some prelim reading. I'm guessing that stock 500's will move it to just about 70 and thats under perfect condition ie. labbed props, low fuel, few people, little gear.
I'd like to find one with 525's but there are none out there right now so it looks like the 500's are the only option and then maybe whipples next season. Any and all comments greatly appreciated.

The 36 is a big boat. It does take a lot to get them moving.

We ordered ours new in 2002 with 500 EFI's and all the options including air conditioning.

In stock form under ideal conditions with labbed 26 pitch props I got 74 MPH on the GPS. It would go out and run 70 to 72 all day long any time.

The ride is incredible. It rides better then many boats that are 2 to 4 foot longer.

We pulled the engines last year and did some mild upgrades that have been proven by two engine builders to be reliable.

Our engines look totally stock, but dynoed at 580 HP each with all accessories installed at 5400 RPM.

I can go out and run 75 MPH GPS at any time and the best I've see on GPS to date has been 78 MPH. I have had two other boaters tell me it is running 80 MPH, but I have not seen that on the GPS.

We have several friends with 36's and one that just sold his. He had it running 92 MPH with built engines and Whipples. Another friend but big blower motors in his built by Tyler Crockett and #3 Speedmaster Drives and he is up in the 90's.

I'll be happy to answer any questions you have.

If your interested in a really nice 36 that needs NOTHING, has less then 50 hours on totally freshened hours, and two NEW outdrives with less then 40 hours on them, PLUS a $12K Myco trailer Then let me know and we will set up a test drive for you.

Thanks
Dock

Here are some pictures of my 2002 model.

It is always stored indoors and has too many options to list including full cover and 4 man head set communications.

Billet Battery boxes, K/E Prelubers and oil change pumps. You can change the oil in less then 5 minutes per engine!

Sea Strainers, Billet Air Filters, Billet drive fill bottles.

Okay, enough about my boat. You will find a lot that are cheaper, you will not find any that are better.

If interested, please let me know.

The wife will not be happy of I sell the boat, but I would like to try a new project.

For us it is "Baja" all the way. The brand and the people have been good to us.

I like the new 35 a lot, but I'm getting excited about the new 42 coming out. I would probably hold up until the 42 it out before I made a purchase.

Here is the 36 that had 509 MER built motors with Whipples.

He was also running 1 Imco shorties.

Re: 36 outlaw ?

Bottom line is the 36 is a very solid boat. Lots of room, rides and handles the rough very well.

The mold for this hull was built by Cigarette. They sold it to Force 10 and Baja got it from them and built the 36.

You can make them run fast. I have heard of a 110 MPH 36 back a few years ago. It was billed as the worlds fastest Baja 36 Outlaw. The hull is solid, you just need horsepower.

The raftup picture shows a 30 Outlaw to the left, then the new 35 Baja "Poker Face, then our boat "Dock Holiday" and a 35 Fountain off of us.

Note how much larger the 36 Baja is over the 35 Fountain.

I see, I knew that you had to have something up your sleeve......

When do they think they will have the 42 ready?

I would love to see them come out with something even better than the 35 PR this year.

A matter of personal choice.

Keep in mind that you can set those up any way you want. All the handles can easiely be moved to any of the four positions.

We have a good friend that was a Sonic dealer. He came us a brand new 358 Sonic with 525's to run one day on Norman. Jeff "Steel Outlawed" and his wife came down. The Sonic had the setup like I have now and I liked it a whole lot better. That is why I went that way.

You can take the stock controls out of the Baja and change them if you wanted to.

I had it custom built.

http://www.truck-tool-box.com/

Took about two weeks after I ordered it. Cannot remember the price, but it was not cheap.

You want a lid on the top and not on the side, so no water enters. It had the gas shocks, full seal around the lid and all stainless hardware.

It is VERY strong. I step off of the deck onto it when we load the boat.

Plus it will carry a lot of stuff!

Re: 36 outlaw ?

Thanks for the response Doc. Your boat looks real sweet. Unfortunatley I'm just one of those people who needs to be the first owner. Very anal I guess you can say. Not that your boat doesn't look and sound like its got everything I'd want I told myself after the first boat I bought used that I'd never buy used or again. Proably for the simple reason that I want to be able to go face to face with a dealer over every little issue that arises in the boat after I bought it. For me the piece of mind is worth the extra expense and right now there are a couple of 36's that they cant give away probably due to the new 35's and all the talk of the newer 42 and such. It seems to be a buyers market right now. The '02 photo boat has been for sale for months and the price keeps falling. Someone should have bought that boat by now I think. Its got all the goodies and power most would want. Seems strange it isn't gone at 140K. Again Doc, your boat really is probably the way I'd want mine set up so if I get my hands on one I'll be finding you to get the name of the builder who did your motors and drives. You confirmed what I originally thought. A set of 500's untouched will still get it into the low 70's and with that weight and length I'm guessing a real nice ride in the 60's all day long in most any conditions which is what I'm looking for. I'm not looking to win any races. Ride quality is very important to me.
Thanks

Re: 36 outlaw ?

I understand completely where you are coming from. If you want to buy new and there are some deals out with the colors and options you what then that is the way to go.

When buying used, I have seen friends pay less then I wanted for my boat and end up having to put so much into them that they had more in it then I was asking to begin with and had less boat!

One buddy had to get a 36 Outlaw. He asked me to price my boat to him over a year ago and I did. He said it was too much money! He went up to New York and bought the same year model for about 20K less. The boat looked kind of rough and needed a lot of TLC. It did not have the options my boat had including triple bolster rear seat, 500 EFI's, Air Conditioning, upgraded stereo, Sea Strainers, water pressure gauges, head set communication, prelubers, GPS, VHF and most importantly a Myco trailer.

He pulled the boat back to Lake Norman in May of last year and had the oil pump pick up to come off of the port engine and he toasted it. The boat had 509's built by Bullet Marine with carburetors on them and was suppose to be an 80 MPH boat. He really did not know how fast it ran because the speedo did not work!

Bottom line is he lost ALL of last season, rebuilt the bad engine over the winter at close to 10K and we have not seen him on the water yet this year.

You get what you pay for. I have documented all work done to our boat and she has it all, looks great and we have not missed a beat boating!

Good luck shopping and keep us posted on what you buy.
