I tried spinning them in on my 36 and gained NOTHING top end. It would not carry the bow. I did loose handling at idle around the docks. It was like I had a single engine boat. I have a lot of buddies with Fountains spining them in and it works GREAT. Try it, just switch the props and used the shifters backwards. If it works for you then switch the control cables. If not just change the props back. Good luck |
Re: Turn them in or out?
I turned mine in by accident on a trip this summer. I have a 29 OL that I put 4 blades on for Lake Erie (rough water) and when I put my 3 blades back on I didnt pay attention and switched the props. Besides the surprise at the dock trying to get the boat off the trailer...everything was normal only backwards on the shifters. I had the same results as Doc...lost 2 to 3 mph and it would not manuver worth a s*** at the docks. Hope that helps

Re: Turn them in or out?
I turned mine in on my 36. gained 1 mph. I did it at a poker run, and was parked in a super tight spot. It looked like it was my first day driving. I couldnt get the boat out without people pushing me off and helping. It SUCKS around the docks. Not worth the 1mph to me, and that says alot!!

Re: Turn them in or out?
Sounds like the easy check is to switch props and see what it does, I wil let you know the findings.
Do you have to switch drives every 100 hours to evenly disperse wear on the gears?? I have heared this from my dealer (he said 50 hrs?) or was he just drumming up work. |

I have never done that, nor heard that. My gut feeling is that the gears wear in and you may do more harm then good by switching them. I'm not basing that on any hard facts. Interesting question? |
Re: Turn them in or out?
Ive heard that you should switch drives if you have been running out and decide to permanantly run in, because the drives form a wear pattern and it would keep them turning the same as they always had. dont know if there is any truth to that, but it makes sense.

Re: Turn them in or out?
Thats what I was thinking to, If the boat handles ok with them spinning in I will change the drives so the gear pattern is the same as before. Does this make sense :( :(

Re: Turn them in or out?
it also made the boat ride different, much looser. let us know how it turns out.

Re: Turn them in or out?
Bigracks,
That hull is pretty close to my 29 (2001). I think your going to hate the way it handles...or dosen't as the case may be. Just like above in the thread, the way the boat will handle will make you look like you have no clue how to operate a boat. I wouldn't recomend it. But, you will never know till you try...right. Good luck. |
Re: Turn them in or out?
I tried them "in" on my 29 O/L,
wasn't any faster, and handled odd, not to mention the poor docking maneuvarability. I'd bet you'll have the same results. |
Re: Turn them in or out?
I did it on my 320 for one trip only. It was horrible, got real loose if I tried trim it up. The 320 is a different hull though, I think it has a bigger pad than an outlaw.

Re: Turn them in or out?
I have them spinning in on my 29 Outlaw & I think it responds better to trim & drives better at speed. I picked up 2 mph on the top end. Docking it is not that much fun & it is harder to back into the slip. I am used to it now & am not sure if I will change back to spinning out.
I do like the way the boat feels. It feels like it is not so stuck to the water. It also comes on plane faster. The best thing to do is try it. The most difficult part of the change is moving the shifter cables. Rember "checkballs" they are responsible for the little clicks you hear in the throttles & shifters. If you don't have them in place it is hard to maintain a throttle setting while sipping your beverage. |
Re: Turn them in or out?
I am running labbed 3-blades on a 29 Outlaw. I tried spinning them in and I saw no gain in speed but a big loss in handling! As everyone else stated, it really sucked around the dock!!! I did notice an improvement changing it to toe-in instead of toe-out though. It runs better but, it can get squirrely when fully trimmed!!

I to turn them in i run hydromotives i think the boat rides better with them in my old 32 outlaw had them in to so
the dock thing is no big deal but on the 36 i think turning them in (with a higher x) is the way to go. good luck. |
Re: Turn them in or out?
Sorry for not getting back to you all, I have been in houston for the last week on business(STILL THERE :D )
I am going on the river shiver run this week end (Oct 1st)hosted by the Nothern Illinois off shore club. it will probley be the last run for the season, work gets busy this time of year for me(Turnarounds and deer hunting) I dont want to look like a rookie in front of all the other perf boaters so I will have to wait till next season :( But I am working on the wife for a 38' PQ :evilb: so I may not get the chance to try it, sounds like it won't work any way, I do not want to give up any handling for 1-2 MPH. if any. |
