29 Outlaw Owners Opinion

O.K. guy's and gal's. I'm on my 2nd Powerquest and can't say enough about the boats other then they currently are out of business. I'm looking to move up to a 29-30 range and have always liked the 29 Outlaw. Just want to get some feedback from you owners as to the good and bad. I'll be running it on Lake Michigan so the ride quality is very important. Also I noted both twin and single setups in this hull. Was very surprised to see a single in a 29. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Re: 29 Outlaw Owners Opinion

I had 2 of them.

Took both of them up to Lake Superior,
they did very good up there.

Ran them at LOTO many times.....did
fine down there too.

My only complaint about the boat is the rear
cleat placement.....it's kind of hard to keep a
bumper from getting squished out toward the rear,
when tied up to another boat.

The 29 singles are real popular at LOTO,
mainly for the ride.

Re: 29 Outlaw Owners Opinion

So are you saying the single setup has a better ride than the twin?

Re: 29 Outlaw Owners Opinion

Fast forward,
I moved up this season from a 25 OL to a 29 OL and couldn't be happier with the ride and performance. It handles rough water very well. I boat on Lake Erie quite often and it has seen some pretty rough stuff a few times and it feels very solid. I have twin 496 Ho's in mine and love them. I will tell you that while looking for this boat I found a couple 29's with singles and the re-sale was terrible. I didn't see any of them with big power single set ups, but 1 would seem under powered to me now that I have owned one. Just my $0.02
Good luck!

Re: 29 Outlaw Owners Opinion

We have a 2000 29 we bought new in 01 and have not had any problems. 454 mag EFIs, 600 + hours. Had to do drive couplers at about 400 hrs. The rear cleat location sucks for sure. Been to every shootout since we got the boat and if it can handle LOTO it should be able to hang about anywhere.

Re: 29 Outlaw Owners Opinion

When I bought my 24 OL in '97, the dealer had a 29 with the same paint scheme as mine with some BIG power. the son of the owner af Baja (before Baja was sold to Brunswick) came out and ran it here. I fell in love with that boat immediately. Just couldn't afford it at the time. Awesome boat with great lines. The 24 degree hull cuts deep through the snot. good riding boat for sure.

The 29 Outlaw is a bad mo-fo! I wouldn't recommend getting it with single engine though. Reliablility and speed are the main reasons I'd go with twins.

Re: 29 Outlaw Owners Opinion

I had a good friend with one,a 2000 w/454 base motors. Boat rode good and had alot of room, was under powered though. Avoid the singles and 310 hp twin models unless your looking strictly for ride and don't care about speed (or re-sale),Smitty

Re: 29 Outlaw Owners Opinion

Thanks Guys you've a great help. I love the lines on the outlaw (the older ones) Can't say much about the new ones. Is it just me or did they go in reverse on the style. They've gone back to the sharp lines??? I like the looks of the older ones much better.

Re: 29 Outlaw Owners Opinion

Get a late 90's 33' and you will save your time selling a 29 b-cause after a year the 33 or even the 36 will be very tempting. I had a 24 OL and a 29 and then a 29' Fountain. I am about to cut off my beak...maybe for a 36. mainly for a stable safe ride at LOTO.

FF:

It is not just you. I have been looking and loooking nad looking at the 29 and the 30 OL. Was sooooo close to getting a 30 cause it is the newer model, but it just does not look as good to me as the 29. I prefer the 29's rounded out look vs. the 30's sharp choppy look with head rest no the bench. Plus, I llike the setup in the 29. Not knocking any 30's out there, just my personal opinion and taste. To each is own.......

Re: 29 Outlaw Owners Opinion

I was reading this thread and I wanted to say I just moved up from a 22' single and now have a 2004 30' Ol. I bought this one because of the good deal and based on a friends 29 Ol that I wanted to buy but wasn't for sale. The 30 in my opinion is far better than the 29 as far as handling and power and the cuddy seems to have a better layout with more room. I still like the 29 though and would recomend the 33 or 36 if your going to move up.

Couldn't agree more with this statement. We went from a 24 Outlaw to our Top Gun and never regretted the size. The late 90's 33 & 36 OL's are bad azz! And can be gotten at a good price. Just depends on your price range and what you want.

Exactly my point....A lot of boat for a good price.

Steppin' up to a Tiger hmmm? Straight or stepped?

This is going to be the endless question for people that can't just go plop down 1/2 a mil on a new boat. Do you buy an older (straight) boat for less money and possibly have more upkeep expenses or a newer step for more money with less upkeep expenses?

If you are looking at straight Tigers my buddy is selling two. The crayola boat and the green, yellow, purple mardi gras boat. The Mardi gras just had a total refit from Lip-Ship and is an AWESOME piece for an outstanding price. 1,000 Teagues and dry 6's. Will run at 100. Boat looks brand spankin' new after Phil was done with it and only used two times after. Thing is SICK! This is the boat I'm talking about.....We were running about 95 in that pic during the SCOPE poker run.

Sorry to hijack the thread.....29, 33, 36 OL's are sweet machines!! :drink: :drink:

No problem. I really have my heart set on a 29 PQ or 29 Outlaw.

I would be interested in hearing from someone with a 29 with a single.
I more than likley will stay with twins however.

Do you want it to run more than 60 ?

Most of the single's I've seen are 502's or lower,
none of these ( in stock form) will get you over 60.

60 won't do it. Really want to be at or close to 70mph. But more is always better. :D

I never gave the 29 the respect it deserved. Had a buddy with one that had 454's in it and it ran low 60's and I just thought that they were a pig.

The ride however was very good and as I got to know others with bigger power I found out quick that it did not take much to make them an 80 MPH boat, and the hull performed well at those speeds.

Personally I would be proud to own one.

Standard 496's or 385's will get you there.

Re: 29 Outlaw Owners Opinion

I have a 29 Outlaw that I bought new in 2001. I have been very satisfied with the boat! For (my needs), it is the best boat in the 29' class. It has more cabin space than any other 29' (that I have seen), but it is still very tow-able! I have the 502's. It runs decent, handles big water well, and (with the addition of A/C) is very comfortable for overnighting. I keep debating about moving up, but it would cost way too much to make it a worth while upgrade! I think I will just make it faster!!!! :drink:
