Jeapardy question for Baja gurus.
I need to see if any of you Baja guys can figure out what kind of boat I am describing.
Here's the skinny......Buddy of mine calls me today telling me about a boat that a customer of his just bought. (he knows I'm into offshore boats) He was telling me about the details on it but something doesn't add up to me. See if you can make anything out from the info he gave me. He did say it was in fact a Baja. Said it was 30' in length Twin 600SC engines Sleeps six in cabin 110 mph Cost was $250,000 Nothing adds up to me. Any ideas? |

If it is a Baja it would have to be the 30 Outlaw. 30 Feet = YES Twin 600 SC's = YES Sleeps Six in Cabin = YES and VERY crowded 110 MPH = On Paper - The one that they have built with 600's is VERY squirley in the 90's Cost was $250,000 = Probably about right Dock |
Re: Jeapardy question for Baja gurus.
Dock, that was my thinking too.
I have never been in the cabin of one, but six people sleeping seemed steep for any performance boat. For some reason that speed seemed a little generous to me. But then again I'm no expert. The price seemed a little off the hook to me. I can easily see how those engines could get the price up there. No offenese to anyone here in the Baja forum, but I didn't see the value in a 250k 30' Outlaw. Seemed like a blown up number to me. Why not get a Gun? Not to mention he was "supposed" to have gotten a good deal on the boat for that price. He is supposed to take the boat by my buddy's shop next week sometime for him to see it. I'll get back here with the details after that. |
Re: Jeapardy question for Baja gurus.
Word got out fast about my new boat.

Remember this boat? http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=130046
I can't imagine too many have been built with 600's |
Re: Jeapardy question for Baja gurus.
I think your bud was talking about a 30 ft outlaw with big power. I'm doubtful about the 110mph and if your going to squeeze 6 people in the cabin it either needs to be 1 guy and 5 women or 6 midgets :evilb: ,Smitty

I can't imagine too many have been built with 600's I know there is a 35 w/ 600's being built right now and also a 40 Outlaw with 700's. |
Re: Jeapardy question for Baja gurus.
The boat came from Ugly John's in Oklahoma. Maybe that will narrow down which boat it is for you guys.
Are you guys saying that real world speed on it is somewhere in the mid 90s then? PS...I'm gonna call his bluff on the six people in cabin comment. Is this cabin set up any different than any other boat? Does it just have a normal V-Berth and benches? If so, there's no way six are gonna sleep in there. |

I was told by a guy in the know that drove the one delivered to Tennessee that is was scary at 95 MPH. It would be an awesome boat to own, but you can get hurt in it real quick if you do not respect it. |

You convert the two benches into a bed. Two people are okay, four will be VERY crowded and the other two will be in the floor of the cockpit. |

Here are some pictures of the cuddy in the 30 Outlaw. I took these on the first 30 they had at the Miami Boat Show.

Re: Jeapardy question for Baja gurus.
Six in the cabin is not unheard of ............in my 302 I have had more than that...................All of us were drunk and passed out but we did sleep there. 9 total
4 in the front berth.........including me. 3 on the wrap benches.......2 sitting up (kind of) 1 laying down. 2 on the floor in the cabin.........how I don't know because I can't fit there and I have tried. When I woke up there were 5 more in the cocpit and on the sun pad. I guess I you need is a ton of booze and a few drunk friends that missed the last ferry off the island that need a place to pass out. :D :D :D |

Re: Jeapardy question for Baja gurus.
We've slept 4 people in my 30 several times. It's a little tight but not too bad. Just put the girls in the middle so you're not bump'n butts with your buddy! Better yet, just bring 3 girls and you sleep in the middle! :evilb:

This was posted on TBM today by TEAMBAJAMARINE: Jeff Becker with Hawkeye Boat Sales has informed me, that they have a Baja 35' Outlaw on order with Twin Mercury 700 SCI's & NXT-1 Dry Sump Drives. "We're hoping to top 100 MPH with it" said Becker. They believe this to be the 1st New -Production Model- Baja Boat capeable of reaching the triple digits (100 MPH) and offering Full Factory Warranties. |

It has been done with a 36 Outlaw with 900's, but of course those did not have a warranty. 36 w/ 900's 35 w/ 700's Looks like Baja is heading in the right direction. |
Re: Jeapardy question for Baja gurus.
Heard the second 30 with 600's was a much less squirley for whatever reason. But real fast none the less!
|
Re: Jeapardy question for Baja gurus.
I'd like some 600's in my 29 Outlaw! :D
|
Re: Jeapardy question for Baja gurus.
Ive got almost 600's in my 36. I was talking to custom touch at the poker run about how fast they would be in his 29. it wouldnt be a 110mph boat by any means, maybe close to ~90??

Hmm, how much modification will I need to do to my sunpad to shoehorn a 600 in my 245. Naaa, better yet, I would just rather have the money it would take to buy a 600, then put that towards a bigger boat. :D |

VERY SMART |
Re: Jeapardy question for Baja gurus.
600's would be over 90, not by much, but still over 90.......I think.

Re: Jeapardy question for Baja gurus.
Baja website claims:
"A spacious layout with room for eight and a posh cabin with enclosed head let you take the fun below". And sleeps 3. I think eight people who were awake sitting in the cabin would be less comfortable than six people sleeping.... |

Re: Jeapardy question for Baja gurus.
Ahhh I see, I was reading it incorrectly because they spoke about the enclosed head in the same sentence.
I agree it is a little tight under the hood of a 30. |
