By the way, do you know what that yellow 35 Outlaw in that picture is now named?
Is that not the boat that turned into "Poker Face"?

At first I thought it was, however it had 525's in it and not 496's.

So this may be a different boat that just had the same paint scheme.

Here are some pictures of the 35 that is now Poker Face before they replaced the top deck last winter. It ran in the 90's originally with the lighter top deck.

Don't forget that they swapped in 496 HOs into that boat for the test that Boating Magazine did for their Speedboat publication when Eric Colby was trying to find out how many miles per hour you would gain per horspower. They ran the boat with 525's then swapped them out the same day to 496's and re-tested the boat. Baja was involved with the test and they used the Poker Run 35 that eventualy turned into "Poker Face"

In December 1992 the "38" won best offshore value in PowerBoat Magazine. The boat that was in the brochure and in the magazine was mine! The first purchaser ( I purchased it used) had the wind fairing removed and installed a windshield. It had all the hardware painted or powder coated white and custom emblems for " 38 Special". There were many one off things done to that boat so it was extremely hard to get replacement parts.

I knew you had a 38 Special, but not "THE 38 Special".

Pretty cool.

Please post some pictures for us.

Re: Baja History "The Thread"

I wonder what the market would be for a 29OL with a single HP500 or SC600?

Although this may not be a 70mph Baja, many are not that concerned about top speed, and the reduced maintenance and upkeep might be appealing.

Sure, but that is a lot of boat with a single. They are very popular at Lake of the Ozarks.
Another thought is that that may be a lot of HP on a heavy boat on a single Bravo drive. There went your reliability.
I guess what I am trying to say is that a single engine in a 29 Outlaw is like a v-6 in a camaro. Sure you look good, but the chicks don't dig it.

Doc,

I will have to go into the archives and see what I can come up with. I a gave the brochure and Powerboat Magazine to broker when we were selling it. We change out all our pics at the house. I will attach a pic of our new logo for our poker run t-shirts

Yes they built 29's that were single engine. But the 29 is a BIG boat and it was SLOW.

If you want room and a good riding boat at 50MPH it is great.

Activators are VERY fast boats. A few showed up at the Jacksonville run last year and WOW were they fast. They smoked all the Velocity folks. But it is a SMALL boat. You can put three of them in a 29 Outlaw.

Bill,

If you just want a big nice riding boat and speed is not an issue I would not spend the money for the 500, 525 or the 600. You will NEVER see it back out of that boat and it will still not be that fast. Just stick with a 496HO and have the difference for a lifetime worth of fuel.

Your probably right as the whole concept is an affordable cost for operating it. I suspect there's a lot of folks who would be thrilled with the ride of a 29' hull without the expense of running twins.
Roughly, how much more does a 29OL weigh compared to a 272?

272 Dry Weight = 4400 lbs

29 OL Single Dry Weight = 5575 Lbs
29 OL Twin Dry Weight = 6800 lbs

The 29 is a much larger boat, it punches a much bigger whole through the air and has more wetted surface by far.

Thanks Dock ...
That's probably too much hull to be pushed around by 400-500hp.
And as my son reminded me, you would only buy a Baja to go fast,
..... otherwise get a Tollycraft :D

32 outlaw/calibur/magnum?

researching the 32 outlaw. any opinions or history of this hull. wondering how different it is from the 33. There seems to be some 32's out there for a reasonable price. with just a bit of difference in styling from the 33.

They are pretty close in my opinion. Personally I think the 32 is one of the best boats ever built and the one that put Baja on the map. The 420 and 38 Special were great accomplishments, but the 32 was VERY popular, there are tons of them still on the water and they look great and run great.

I see a lot of owner pride with the 32 Outlaw and some look even better then when they were new.

The 32 was a pretty good race boat also. I saw run running in the 2001 APBA race in Washington, North Carolina and it ran strong.

Thanks for bringing this thread back to the top.

Hull should be very similer, deck and cockpit will look different. Great looking and riding boat but will look a little more dated than the 33s. Still a lot of boat for the money.

was the radar arch a factory upgrade and does anyone think they will ever come back. I found a project 32 that i thought i could remove the arch or hang some speakers on it like the wakeboard boats.
