Removing the back seats

I am in the process of switching motors in my 1997 27 Islander. In order to fit the new motor in I was told that the center section of the rear bench must be removed as well as rear back rest. The problem I have is that I cant find any mounting screws/ hardware holding the back rest in place. The center seat came out easy but the back rest is becoming a head ache! Please HELP!!!!

Thanks

Yea - I'd like to know how to remove the vertical portion of my back seat in our 29 OL as well. The local Baja dealer and mechanics don't know - somebody out there must know!? Help!

Re: Removing the back seats

My 97 272 had one or two ss wood screws holding the sides of the backrest of the back seat. Reach back in the side compartments and feel for a screw bead into the side of the seat. after that you have to wedge it out. The motor has just enough room to come out. It might come out w/o taking the seat back off. Mine has a procharger pulley is why i have to take mine off.

Just curious..what did you have, and what are you putting in for an engine? Thanks.

Re: Removing the back seats

LtfLife, I checked with my buddy. His `93 272 is just the same as kennyo´s ´97. Reach back in the lower side storage and you will be able to find the 2, or 3 screw heads. He said that after you´ve removed the screws expect to have to use alot of force to remove the backrest - if it has never been removed before. The vinyl sticks pretty good to the inner walls of the cockpit. Maybe spray a litlle water and detergent down the sides to free things up.

Thanks again for the help! I will test out the soap and water theory on Saturday. Hopefully it will come out!
