Oil temp???

What oil temp should I expect after the engine has reached normal operating temp(about 160-180)? 496 Mags in a 30OL. Ran for a few hours on Friday and the oil temp gauges never moved off 140 on either engine.

Mine run 190. Don't be surprised if they forgot to hook them up.

Mine are just like yours barley move off 140. I ran hard this past weekend. Well running about 4000 for about 40 miles straight. Oil temp was about 160-170 still barely off the 140 mark. I have never seen it near the 190 mark.

Jay,when I had my 33 o/l with the 496's I was concerned that they did not move too.I found out that they will not move until you run it hard for quite a while in august when its pretty hot out.One thing though...the gas gauge moved very quickly... :D

Re: Oil temp???

Put a couple of Prochargers on it. That will get it off 140 degrees.

Re: Oil temp???

500 efi'S

190 degrees all day long before the HP upgrades

200 Degrees now

140 seems way too low to be able to boil out any water or moisture? Call Merc and ask them first hand.

Re: Oil temp???

Checked with Merc and they said they did not have any specs on the oil temp. I guess i'll check to make sure the gauges are hooked up correctly and go from there. Merc said they do not install oil temp sensors on their engines????

Re: Oil temp???

The black motors don't have an oil cooler
thermostat, so if you're running in cold
water and not running it real hard, you
may not see much for temperature.

The blue motors do have an oil cooler
thermostat, they will divert oil from the
oil cooler 'til a certain oil temp. is reached.

I was running mine this last weekend in
40* water and was still maintaining 140*
of oil temp.

Jay,
Mine barely move off 140 either. In the summer they move a little bit but not too much.

So how are you liking the 30? Have you gotten used to the twins yet? More importantly, have you opened her up yet to see what she can do? :D

I'm running carbed 500hp's and see about 180 on one and if I stay in it to long on the other can reach over 200. That worries me a little.

Don't let it worry you unless you really have a problem. Anything below 250 degrees on oil temp is okay.

Re: Oil temp???

Yup...210-235 is good...250-265 after a hard run is fine as well...

Chris,
Was out last friday for about 4 or 5 hours. Really like the way it rides(no other boats out) and the difference between the single and twins is huge. I ran it up a couple of times and with 6 people 3/4 tank of gas and a 1/2 empty cooler it ran about 73 on the lie-o-meter. I didn't think that was to bad for the first time running it hard. I'm still practicing the docking stuff--( I think I'm going to ask Outlaw Ed to help me :D ). So far we reeeeeeally like the boat. I did find out the fastest thing on the boat was the gas gauge--that thing goes down faster than my first ex. :evilb:

I put mine right on the remote filter, and I see 180-190 at normal cruise after a hard run mine reach 250-260 but go back down after pulling out of it.. Keep in mind that those temps are before the oil cooler there read as soon as the hot oil comes out of the motor and into the remote filter!!!

4Lance 08-30-2012 11:29 AM

could u snap a pic where u mounted the sensor i cant see where to put one thanks man

The remote filter has 2 plugs in it.. Pull one them and screw in the sensor.. Next time I'm in the boat I'll snap a pic...

Should be right next to the oil lines that enter and exit the remote.. Mine is on the right side of the oil line.. Hope that makes since..

Ok I checked my boat there is a 1/2" plug on the stock mercury oil remote filter pad right next to the oil line that brings the hot oil into the filter.. I took that plug out and adapted my senders right there, like I said earlier it's reading the temps of the hot oil just after it leaves the engine and before the oil cooler..

I forgot to get the picture if you absolutely need one pm a cell # and I will snap one with my phone and text it to you...

i should have asked you one more thing........ did you run new wires back from gauges or did you find the sensors they installed from the factory?

does anyone know where baja intsalled the sensors?
