blown 25 outlaw to sell
I have a 2001 25 outlaw that I have spent roughly $60000 in upgrades with blown dynoed (at eickerts) 540,extension bow, imco shorty, imco steeering, new hydraulic tabs etc and finally just lost patience. Will be on classifieds soon. Perfect for any hot rodders out there with patience. Only 28 hrs on motor. In jacksonville Florida. I need around $55000 to pay off note and hope to only eat the last $60000 in extras. Must See.

Good luck selling it,I hope you can find the right buyer but there isn't much market for highly modified Baja's,Smitty
|
Just curious...why all that on a 25'er?
|
How can you lose your patience with a hotrodded overpowered 25?
Sounds like a great project! |

I don't know what I was thinking. I just wanted to go a little faster. I race cars 30-40 weekends per year so I don't have the time to tweek it. I should have taken the hint when I found little help on setup, props etc. We love the boat but have just put too much money in it. We might rade it in??
|
Sounds bad ass but might be a tough sell unless you find the right buyer. Got any pics?
|
There are two ways to go 80 + for around 120 grand. One is the way you did it and the other is to buy a used 30 with 496 HOs. The twin makes good sense, also when you resell it, but costs more to run. Your little boat only makes any sense if you finish it and run it...and enjoy it. Something doesnŽt stack up here.
I went the same route with an extension box, full hydraulic, 24" tabs and 560 crank hp on a 2003 25. 80 mph and rock solid handling. 95 hours in, I wouldnŽt swap it for anything. So lets see some pictures.............. |
Its been finished since 05 when we took the 496 out. Then the end of last year I had the motor back out to put a new blower and detail the motor out, which led to taking it to have it completely gone through by Express Racing Engines. Ofcourse "after" the motor is back in the boat is when I finally get some knowledge/advice that I should have it re-rigged with a higher X dimension,if I ever want to use the horsepower. This is part of my frustration, along with no time to play with props, etc, etc. It has 28 hours on it totally since 05.

Can you email me some pictures and some detailed info on it?

Sound like a great boat that just needs a the right mod. Get a 3" lift extension box on there, and youŽll be flying. You have all the other parts from Imco, so you only need the box itself. Around $1200 for that, if i remember right. Raised motor mounts (the standard ones are rubbish anyway) and two new holes in the transom for the pipes. It may be a bridge too far, when youŽve already come all this way, but the 25OL is a rocket, once you free it up a little.
|
The nice thing about the 3" raised box is that you use the stock transom cutout. In my opinion, the settup has no vices or drawbacks.

I really appreciate the input because It looks like some of you have done your homework. Where were you when we started this mess? I guess I didn't mention that it already has the Imco raised extension box and a 1inch shortie. The motorbuilder does A Lot with Velocity raceboats and seems to have considerable knowledge. According to him (and 5 or 6 boats in his shop that make mine look like a jon boat) the motor and all needs to be raised about 4 inches. I only have 2-3 inches of clearance already and do not want a hood scoop. He also told me that a 3 blade prop would work better "speedwise" than the 5 blade 26 or 4 blade 30 that I have now.
|
Well if you already have the raised box AND a shorty, you are running nice and loose already!!!!!
So how about giving us some figures to work with? What speeds were you seeing? Do I understand right that the 540 hasnŽt run since it got the blower? What IS actually your problem with the boat? |
I would like to see some pix...

I hate to keep bothering you so I will try to make it short. I bought the motor with a B & M 420 mega blower. It ran great but I kept having trouble with the belt "walking"forward. When looking for parts I found it hard to get parts/info since they had been bought out. I was introduced to this boostpower guy here in Fla. and he talked me into buying a brand new blower shop blower and told me that Express Racing Engines in Deland could get it right for me. I then brought the complete motor to them and I don't remember why but they/we decided that we should freshen and check it all out. I decided to get them to detail and make the whole motor look good too ! $20000 later I have this nice motor back in the boat and take it straight to Express racing so that he could go over everything. When I came to pick it up at his boat shop is when I got the education on how this motor/drive package should be raised. I have just lost patience since my racing(sprint cars) keeps me too busy to be prop testing etc. And there is no way I am paying more $ and time to re-rig. Just tired of it. These boat people don't seem to be too honest . For numbers It ran high 80s with old blower( don't remember rpms)New blower seems to be lower 80's(like 81),but for some reason with both it seems to hit a wall @ 5300 rpms no matter which prop. Express says the motor should be over 6000 but will never happen unless I do raise it??? I am no way cutting down Express either they were all very professional. They had some badd boats in his shop to back up the advice . Sorry to ramble on and this is the short version.

Why not pull the huffer motor out and throw in a lightlyl used 496, then sell the huffer and drive seperately. Seems like you would come out better in the long run.

So, what about some pictures?..........
|
Yeah, lets see some pics of this bad boy!!
|
Hey Slo, here in Jax, too. I would like to take a look at your setup sometime?
|
Same here. Anybody going to the Jax poker run this weekend? Or Angle Aid the following weekend?
|
Will be watching ;) Motor is not feeling well, spitting up oil over 4k RPM.
|
Any of you are welcome to look at the boat anytime. I keep it at Palm Cove Marina(dry-storage)Evidently I am too much of a dinosaur to figure out how to upload these pictures. I have a disc and will be happy to copy and mail.
|
Try to launch across from the marina a couple times a summer to hit the conch house or caps. Grew up right around the corner.
We need to get everyone together for a run sometime! |
Sounds Great, I grew up just a few blocks from Beach Marine.
|
Sounds like a tricked out boat, but a difficult one to sell, without taking a bath. It was mentioned earlier to replace with a used 496/bravo-1 combination, I would totally agree with this.
Sure it may be a hassle, but everything you need is on this site... used 496/bravo-1, classified to sell your trick motor, and classifieds to sell boat. If you did this you would attract a much, much larger buyer market for your boat, and you would come out much farther ahead financially. You have some ncie mods, the steering for xample, but the power and drive is going to turn off the vast majority of Baha 25 buyers. |
