Possible purchase of a 90' 250ES
I am looking here for some advice on a Baja 250ES listed in the Classifieds.
The boat seems to be priced out right @20K, according to photos. I will be taking a closer look in the next few days. Being a Firefighter I like the red hull color. The boat has a new 454 motor which was installed 3 years ago and now has approximately 40 hours. The interior is original with no rips or tears or worn seams. The sunpad wood was replaced. The deck carpeting was replaced. There are a few minor addons but it is basically stock. The trailer was completely gone through from wheels, tires, bearings, and bunks. The only thing I can see that I would want is a Chartplotter, and VHF radio. Does a set of Livorsi controls fit the stock location? Advice?? |
I assume this is the boat?
http://www.offshoreonlyclassifieds.c...o17535-en.html It looks nice but I would still have a survey done on it before you stroke a check. The Livorsi controls will be able to be installed but I don't think the holes will line up. You may need to use a bezel to cover some of the old mounting area. I remember seeing an older boat upgraded to the newer Livorsi controls and I think he said he needed to install the bezel to cover something. |
Yea that is the boat...I will have to take a closer look in the next few days. The original controls look worn...

Another, cheaper option would be to have the original controls painted. Red would look sweet...

Meant to add, they're great boats. My dad had a '91 270 (same boat, just renamed) and we loved that boat. Put a ton of hours on it and never had a single problem. If I remember right we were running about 62 mph on gps, upper 60s on speedo.

Hey jmeng, how'd you get the windshield white in that pic?
|
It wasn't like that when we owned it, just the regular tinted windshield. Thats a recent picture of the boat, I stumbled across it in an online classified ad. I've seen another 250 ES that had a white windscreen, it looked like that one had the original windscreen covered with white vinyl graphics.

I understand the windshields on these can be a problem area. Should I ever need a windshield is it going to cost me $2000 to get a new one??? The seller states the windshield is in good order. The depth sounder does not work, and I don't like the transom mount one that is hanging there. Is that fixed with filling the holes with epoxy? |
Controls are easily removed and touched up/repainted. Browse around, a few different members have done it over the years.
You're options to replace the windshield are going to be pretty slim, doubt anyone still has them laying around. Probably looking at getting one custom made, 2K sounds about right. If this fine now though, it shouldn't be a problem in the near future unless you just plan on abusing the boat... |
I am kinda bummed, the seller is now removing the boat from the market. I was looking forward to seeing the boat, it looked like a good buy.
Being a Firefighter, I like the fire red/black gelcoat. Finding this color setup is pretty rare. It matches how we do our apparatus. I was thinking of having the shop that does our gold leaf do the registration number. Oh well, I will keep searching. I would like to thank everyone here for all the input. |
