will 35OL with CMI's & labbed props run 80?

Just wondering if there is one out there. Looking seriously at a 35OL with HO's. Just wondering if those mods will reach 80?

I'm running labbed props on my 302 and picked up a additional pitch and 4mph. I've heard anywhere from 0-5mph on a Baja with CMI's. But your looking at 10k to put CMI's on a twin.

You might check with Outlaw Ed over at PBP.com. He has a 35OL with CMI's. I think he is running 30 labbed but has ordered some 32's. I'm not sure about his top speed????

I doubt it will hit 80.

I base my opinion on the fact that I drove Poker Face which was a light layup boat with 525's and it just ran 87 MPH with 525's. Also I know folks with 30 Outlaws that are having a hard time hitting 80 MPH with HO's.

dstroyed 08-13-2007 09:20 AM

i dont the all the details but Ski Dock had a 35 they put exhaust, props and maybe computer work. I see it on Travis all the time. Custom Touch did some paint work on it too.

Any know the boat and details?

I do. With the CMI's it was running 75. :party-smiley-048:

I don't think you will hit 80. I know Grand Sport Center in Illinois has a 35 with 525's in it and that is doing 80 with labbed 5 bladed props.

dstroyed,
That boat belongs to Outlaw Ed---see PBP.com.

This 35 outlaw powered by 496HOs reaches a true gps speed of 80mph with the CMI's and labbed 30s that we have install. Give me a call 1.888.585.8050, Thanks David

What does this mean? What is a poker run layup?

Kevlar and Carbon Fiber construction. 1000lbs less weight.

JaayTeee 08-14-2007 09:26 PM

Speedboat magazine did a test on a 35 O/L
poker run ( actually, it was the boat that was turned into
Poker face ) with 525's, and then swapped
those for 496 HO's.

With the HO's it ran 79

You're not going to get to 80 with a standard
layup unless you get those HO's to make over 500 hp.

I remember that article. I was impressed with the work that went into that.

Thanks for the replies. Just wondering. Still looking at pulling the trigger on a 35OL with HO's . It has labbed props from throttle up already. Owner claims 75 on GSP. Was wonderinf what the CMI's would give , Probrably about 2-3 mph.
I can live with that.
I'll keep you all posted. Dont know what these freakin hurricans are doing?
But as of now it looking good for the deal. Will be trading in my 29OL.

Baja_man 08-16-2007 08:21 AM

What speeds are you see in the 29OL? What motor and props?

cbeastwood 08-16-2007 09:50 AM

Dennis,

You'll probably gain another 2mph in salt water if those other GPS readings were taken in fresh water. That's what I found running the old boat in salt vs. fresh...

I have seen 80 on GSP in spring with very light load of fuel 1/4 tank and 2 peeps.
Since march best I have seen is 77. Gulf water are 90 plus. Bath water.
PLus 9/10 I always fill up right after I pull out of the water . This ways it ready to go next time out.

Irishtornado 08-16-2007 11:16 PM

So are you going to trade in the 29? Should let some people know what kind of trade money your talking before trading it. HO's was pretty rare in a 29 might be a few buyers out there.

roadrep 08-17-2007 04:25 AM

It's all about the size of the prop you can spin! If you can spin a labbed 32 at 5000 rpm (and slippage can be kept to about 15% which is average), you can hit 80. If you can't get that labbed 32 to 5000 rpm, then you need a smaller prop and you will not hit 80. Or get enough power to spin that prop. Anything smaller than a labbed 32 at 5000 won't hit 80 with a standard 1.5 ratio bravo outdrive.
