Swim Platform 25 outlaw
 

Can Anyone help? Recently purchased an aluminum swim platform for my 1998 baja outlaw. It came stock with the fiberglass halfmoon deck. Was going to install the new platform, but am unable to remove the old platform. It seems there's is some kind of epoxy or glue holding the platform to the transom once all bolts and hardware are removed. I tried using a hydaulic jack to pry up and down and had two pretty good size guys standing on it trying to break loose. Any suggestions would be welcomed. It sucks having this new deck sitting in my garage and not on my boat. Thanks.

Its sounds like its on there with 3M 5200 adhesive. That's pretty much permanent stuff.

However, get some very thin and strong piano wire. You will be able to "saw" through the 5200; all the way across. West Marine sells a product also by 3M that will eat away 5200 adhesive; but its still not a fun process.

Also, there is some stuff called "break a bond" that I got from Overton;s I believe that eats 5200, but is not harmful to gel. Used it to remove factory exhaust tips on my last boat.

try some heat (heat gun)... it worked for me in the past.

Been there done that…..I tried all of the above and still nothing, talked to dealer and he told me how they do it……..ready for this…..they unbolt everything get a fork truck and left slowly till it breaks loose? I said your chiting me……anyways …..I don’t have a fork truck laying around, what I did was unbolt everything and bought some 5200 remover from west marine (let it set over night) lowered my trailer as low as it would go in the front, took 2 2x4’s wedge then under the platform to the ground and start slowly raising front of trailer and sure enough I heard a pop and it broke loose, you have to be careful you can rip the fiberglass off your boat, that 5200 is strong stuff, also my platform is aluminum not fiberglass. Hope this helps.

Try one more fat guy jumping up and down. Be sure to have the video going or it won't come loose!

Thanks for the advice. Finally got the old deck off using some old fashion grit. A few hydaulic jacks and putty knives also helped, but it took nearly 5 hours to remove. What a *****!
