Only issue I see is the beam -- my garage door width is around 8'10", so it's a hair's width bigger than the Hammer (8'6" is the beam I've seen published)-- and that's not including trailer fenders... which I'm ASSuming will be a bit wider.

I agree with Dock on the Hammer suggestion. My brother has a 97 Hammer and that boat flat moves even at our altitude and is a good looking boat.

If the deminsions will work....check out the Hammer.

I had an '03 20 Outlaw with 5.0 MPI. It was a great boat (for me) and I ran it hard in the ocean. It was slow getting on plane until I repropped. I don't remember for certain but I think it came with a 23 and I went to a 21. After that it popped out of the water with no problems.

The trim is on the steering column (lever, kind of like a turn signal) but I didn't have any problems using it.

Over all, good starter boat. I have no experience with the Scarab.

I purchased a 1997 22’ Scarab new in 96’ ( the first one for 97 with the mean street graphics, picked it up from the factory) and in 04’ I purchased a new 202 Islander. The Scarab handled the water much better than the 202. it was faster and felt better at WOT. The 202 had a fiberglass liner so maintenance was much easier and it had a lot more room. You are looking at an outlaw so I would guess the room would be closer to the scarab. I have owned a lot of boats over the years and there is something about the 22’ Scarab and how it handled that keeps me comparing a lot of other boats to it. Had a friend that had a hammer. I liked the hammer’s ride better than the 202 but not as much as the scarab.

Please don’t think I’m bashing Baja. They build a great boat and I have owned 3 over the years. I currently have a 1988 240 Sport. :D

Just my 2 cents.

Speed.

listen to everyone that says look at both for likes and dislike and take a ride in each, that is the only way you will be happy with your choice.
I have a 91 21' scarab which i am very happy with.I have been in true 5'ers at 50mph and was not beat to death like i thought i would have been. Also I have wondered why my boat being a 91 had fiberglass floor and a 96 22' had wood floors kind of seems like a step backwards. Also my boat overall with trailer and swim platform is 23' with the tounge removed.

I bought a 22 ft. scarab new with a 454 MPI and used it for 3 years and sold it. I missed it every day and tried to buy another one since. This year I got tired of looking and bought a all red 2005 20 Outlaw with a 305 MPI.
1- The outlaw is very windy
2-The outlaw has a fiberglass inner liner and is more modern inside.
3- I put a 4 blade prop on the Outlaw and now comes on plane real fast.
4- The scarab is little faster, but they both handle rough water equally well.
5- The scarab is only a little longer but looks a lot longer.
I still like the scarab but I think for the money the Outaw is a much more modern and better boat ( 7 years newer )

Good luck I dont think you can make a bad choice.

Don't know Outlaws from Hammers, and this one is asking $21k, but figured I might help out a local OSO bro...

Thanks for the info, I emailed the seller to find out the dimensions on the trailer, to see if it will fit in my garage. I think the Hammer is too wide, but we'll see!

The only thing I don't like about the 20 Outlaw is you can only get the 5.0 in it. Most of the Hammer's had a 7.4 big block in it and ran good. Most of the Scarab's had big blocks also.
