Difference in 496 Mag vs. HO
 

It's my understanding that the only difference between a 496 Mag and HO (2006)is the camshaft and the ECU. Is this true? I also believe the Mag and HO have different lower units. Would the lower unit have to be changed if the new cam and ECU is installed in the mag? I think the new cam is about $450 but I have no idea about the cost of a ECU or having one reflashed. Has anyone tried this and if so were the results worth the $ invested?

There are other threads that explain the differences between the two, and I think you are right about the cam and ECU being the only differences. Raylar people will tell you that going with their kit will give you a new cam and ECU and will increase total hp to 525 I think. I'm not sure of their price, or the price for a new ECU.
