Default new to boating,240 sport

I just purchased a 1991 240 sport this summer,it has a 454 with around 375-400 horse,i put a 1.50 bravo 1 on it and im trying to find the right prop, ive been told a 26 p 4 blade would be good, and does it help or hurt to run a left hand prop on a right hand drive?i had a 23 p 3blade but it tended to blow it out.And when i get 4 friends and a couple of coolers in it i have alot of trouble getting on plane, would trim tabs correct this or is that just to much for the boat?ANy help would be greaty appriciated.ive been in the water for a few years but this is the first boat of my own.I have alot of friends who think they know but id like to talk to some1 who knows there stuff.Im just trying to learn as much as i can to go as fast as i can and be reliable.

Assuming the 454 is a mag, you should have about 365hp. I would only put the appropriate turning prop on the boat.
With the 23p 3 blade, what were your RPM's and top end numbers? The 4 blade will definitely help you hook up and take off. It is just going to be a matter of the 26 being too much prop for the motor to spin.
As far as the tabs, they will help getting you on plane quicker, but you should really start to dial in the correct prop first.

Just let us know your RPM's and Top Speed at WOT and the knowledge on this site will guide you the rest of the way.
BTW Congrats!

Default 240 sport

Thanks so much for the advise!I was told that this motor was built by a performance boat place in atlanta the guy told me it has the old style large oval port heads a custom ground cam light weight alm pistons, alm.intake and a keith dorton built 850 holley carb that has been milled.I put gil exhaust through the hull on it.I am upgrading the ignition this winter to an msd box with a msd 8560 dist.the motor runs strong and sounds great .with the 3 blade it turned 5500-5600.I borrowed a 26 4blade bravo for 1 afternoon but i had a boat load and had a little trouble taking off and wot i turned 4900 with 5 people and 2 loaded coolers,I had to give the prop back that night so i didnt get to really go try it out.I was told that a hydromotive 26 4 blade wouild give a few more rpms than a bravo,is this true? And you would not recomend swapping my cables and run a left hand prop.I was told that you can get a little more out of your prop if you run a left hand.and when i get a prop tunned in what kind of tabs would you recommend?
Again thank you so much for all the info!!!

I had a 90 250ES and ran a 21p with a stock 7.4L (330). I think that even with the 24 would invest in a set of tabs as well. The one s I used were the Bennett dual sport tabs.
