302 with 525 EFIs!! Any bets on Performance!!
Hi guys
I am currently in the process of repowering my 1997 302 with 525 EFIs. Any bets on what she will do?? I don't even know what props will work best on it yet?? I should have it all done in a couple months or so. Anyone done this before ... if so, what props are you using?? |
I'm betting 90+ and you will be swinging 30's or 32's....
She will be a handful at those speeds so I hope you have external steering and some Kplanes. |
There is someone on TBM that has one. Go over and ask him.
|
JayTee had a 29 Outlaw with 500's. It ran in the low 80's. (82 I think) So I say a 302 will run in the low 80's & should spin 28" bravo1's inward for best performance.
|
The member on TBM has 2003 302 with galley package, shorepower, pretty much all the goodies and spinning 30p Bravo's is pulling 81 on GPS, but I sure hope you are putting hydro steering and kplanes on it or your going to have your hands full.
|
Sounds like an interesting project, did you pick up the 525's new or used? Are they plug and play with the wiring? We put 500 EFI's in a friends 38 Special and I was surprised how easy they went in.
|
My experiance is that the 302 hull is faster then most give it credit.
With 496HO's they are in the mid 70s so I would say 83 to 85 with the 525's. |
I stand corrected. I thought someone out west had one that ran just a touch under 90 with 500's?

That's correct. As I recall, the 302 w/525's everybodys mentioning ( from Colorado ??) ran 85ish, and was a bit of a handful. Ditto on the steering and k-planes ( 380's would be best, right Jason ?) |

i could never get the 30's to have rpm's high enough to get the speed over 81 or 82. i put a set of 4 blade herring's that
where at 29's to get to 84. |

I think you must be thinking of the 35...the 30 doesnt have a notch, although 1 was made, ( I think it had 6.2's in it ) and Hawkeye converted a salvage boat to one. |
Take more power than that to run a true 90mph Mid 80's though.
|
I drove the boat from Colorado in 2006 just before it went back to the bank.. with 7 good sized men and low fuel I got it to run 82 on the gps speedo...It did want to chine walk some but I was able to steer out of it, that is a awesome setup IMO with the 525's..
