Chick wants to know!!!

My husband and I JUST bought a Baja Outlaw. It's a teeny boat-only 20 ftr but, I wanna know how I can make this thaang faster! (Already!) ;o) It has a 350 mag and I'm wantin to bust it up to whatever maximum I can get out of this sob. Granted, the gas prices are insane-but, I'm just lookin for an adrenaline rush. :o) Whatever I can get-I'll take. I know that I can do somethin with the prop but, I know more about cars than I do boats, so any bit of help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

Get a bigger boat with a bigger engine.

bjonbaja 04-11-2008 10:01 PM

Sometimes we have to do what we can... with what we have. Jerk. Can somebody a bit nicer let an inquisitive girl KNOW?!??!

should be a quick boat as it is! but i guess i would start with intake and exhaust, maybe a cam or something? although it might not be worth it to throw a bunch of money into something you are never going to be happy with.

what the heck, throw a 200 shot on and see what happens!

Dono77056 04-11-2008 10:26 PM

Clays right...you got about enough engine for that boat....i just sold my 22 with a 454 definitely got loose at high speed...67 on GPS but 55 was plenty with that hull..I just moved up to a 24 pantera for that reason...on rough day speed is going to be the last thing on your mind with a small hull. Have fun then get a bigger safer boat for speed.

t500hps 04-11-2008 10:31 PM

You can sink a ton of money making any boat faster.....typically the money is better spent buying a faster boat. (meaning it takes less money to sell yours and buy a 10 mph faster boat then it takes to make your existing boat 10 mph faster). The rule of thumb is $1,000 for every addl. mph.....and the expression "how fast can you AFFORD to go" is common around here.

BTW: I like the screen name...but should it be spaced differently?

B.J. on (a) Baja :)

bjonbaja 04-11-2008 10:32 PM

That's kind of along the same lines as what I was thinking. I must say-you are a lot nicer than cornhole with the comment about Viagra. Assuming-he has a problem with ED!?!?! But, that's just me!?!?! But, I absolutely DO appreciate your help with that. Any other comments are GREATLY appreciated!!! Thanks for your help!!! You're wonderful!

bjonbaja 04-11-2008 10:35 PM

Lol!!! Haaa! I meant exactly what I said!! ;o) HIS name starts with B and mine starts with J. And there is no spacing there. ;o)

bjonbaja 04-11-2008 10:39 PM

Nahhhh.... I'm just playin'. I'm not THAT kinda chick. At least one who would talk about it. (My mama always said-never kiss 'n tell!) But, either way-you guys are great! And I appreciate your help in backin me up with this little "errrr" situation I've got... But, you do whattcha can-ya know?!?!

Oh, I'm sorry. I though you wanted a fast and safe boat. My bad.

The best way to go fast, as in too fast, is to add boost. Go to www.whipplesuperchargers.com. They have a supercharger for your 350 engine. You will go so fast, that your boat will chine walk.

Good luck!

You sure had alot to say for someone who "doesn't kiss and tell"....... :)
anyway, Making a 20 outlaw run 70 plus would make for a scary ride IMO. Clay's info is correct even if you don't like the way he delivered it....and it's not the size of the boat, Clay had a 22 footer just last year. Besides, he's not used to talking about anything but T&A in the un-censored section!!! (Get back to your room CLAY and post some more pics!!!:evilb:)
Your boat could be made 2-3 mph faster with prop tweeks or an after market exhaust...my cost estimates are still acurate though. Try to enjoy it as is and save up for something a little larger that can handle the extra speed/power. There is a reason the Coast Guard limits HP in boats under about 24 ft and doesn't regulate power in anything over that size.

LAKESIDE RESTORATIONS 04-12-2008 07:14 AM

We specialize in making boats faster.. However the boat will most likely need to have other items installed & fitted to it for safety reasons.. That in it self can at times cost as much or more than just the making it fast part.. If you guys are serious about doing this feel free to call me.. ;) :)

Damn Clay, I've never seen you shot down so fast!!!!!!!!!ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UNSANE 04-12-2008 09:52 AM

You can Procharge 350's and add between 5-10 mph depending on the hull. That should get you over 70. the only other option is to get someone to build up a small block for you. I remember surfing the baja only forum and someone up in Mass. advertised a small block program.
But this all might be a big headache to deal with, plus I don't know how a 20 OL would handle with that much power. You would need a bigger outdrive and tabs for starters along with hydraulic steering. Might not be worth all of that work.

My suggestion is: get used to this boat, get to know it, then up-size. Fountains will be some of the fastest V's you can get your hands on, so are Velocity's. Do your homework. And be safe! Good luck!

Yeah, it makes me laugh. You try to give someone good sound simple advice, and they act like they know everything.

She has a 20-foot Baja. She doesn't know that I once owned a 22-foot Crownline with a Whipple-charged 502 in it!

She's just talking out of ignorance. :p

I knew you had a 22...didn't know the brand or that it was Whippled!!!
Went on a long trip with a group of boats last summer, one was a couple I had never met. They had a 20 outlaw with a 305 in it...that thing was such a wild ride trying to keep up with us that the guys wife made him put her on someone else's boat.
(I had forgotten about that trip since the beers flowed so freely that weekend)

bjonbaja 04-13-2008 12:36 PM

I sure do appreciate all the help guys! Kennyo-I work in Hendersonville. You're pretty close to me.
But, as far as the "ignorance" comment- You sound exactly like my dad (who's no longer with us) but, a cocky sob. Just not into cocky jerks. But, you do what you need to with your Viagra! :o) But, everything else posted is greatly appreciated! ;o)

Don't be so hard on Clay....It's just old guy's sense of humor,LOL.

P.S. If you want a rush, I hope to be running close to 90 this year!

Use caution BJ, if you join the MPCA with Kennyo as your only reference he may try to talk your husband into a naked (all male) pile-on at the next "pajama party".....

Seriously though, the MPCA is a good local organization, and like all clubs, it is what you make of it. The advice you are getting here about your OL is right on the money. Have fun with your new boat and save your "go-fast" money for your next ride. I may even part ways with my H2X later on this year which would get you in the high 70's low 80's!

That is good to know. Based on the comments on the party in the MCPA forum, it did not sound like a very pretty sight.

TxHawk 04-15-2008 08:20 PM

This thread took a turn! No one asked if this boat has a bravo or alpha. I assume with the mag it is a bravo.

My advice, have fun with the 20 for a while and move up some day.

bjonbaja 04-15-2008 08:39 PM

It did take a quick turn! Lol!! We are-we're going to keep it for a bit then move on up. Thanks for the MCPA advice. I appreciate it. And-that's cool about your pajama par-tay naked hairy men in a pile warning. I'll keep an eye out for that.

About ole dude with the Viagra- he's just itchin to get some chick rawled up so he feels that he's "still got it." -Bless his heart. I like that. He kept me on my toes for a minute. :o) But, you know-whatever floats his boat. I'll give it to him-he ruffled my feathers a bit. But, then I realized-he might have ED and I felt a bit sorry for him. (For a moment.) No HARD feelins! ;o)

I appreciate all the help! You guys are wonderful!!! And actually Percy Priests pretty cool. We went out there once last summer... Maybe we'll do it again! Have a good night!
