transducer mounting help
I just got a Garmin 440s. I am having trouble finding the right location to mount the transom mnt transducer. Although I don't like the look of the transducer hanging off the back of the boat I have been told it is the best way without removing the engine for a thru hull transducer. I want the water temp as well as the depth finder. I have a 1997 Baja 32 outlaw with twins. The manual says to mount the transducer between the engines as close to center as possible, but then it is said that close to the keel is a spot of turblance that can interfere with the transducer Help where do I mount the damn thing? I also want to know the deadrise angle of this boat does anybody know what the angle is on this boat?

Hey buddy,
Thanks for the kind words on the PM. Sorry I missed this thread.
For the best results mount it as much forward in the engine compartment as possible (up closer to the seat) and toward the center of the hull where it is the deepest. So if you are on the seat looking into the engine compartment it would be straight down either just right or just left of the vee.
Good luck
In the attached picture mine is mounted just under the left sea strainer and it works perfectly.

You said in your post where the directions told you to mount it, I've seen a couple on twins at the marina and they are usually about 6 inches up and 6 inches over (give or take) from the bottom of the keel, and I think from what I read in the directions for mine it is suppose to hang at least an 1/8 inch or so below the bottom of the boat, I haven't gotten around to putting mine on either.
I know last year there was a 29 Outlaw with a transom mount at the marina, I'll see if its still there this weekend and take a picture for you if it is.

it has to be sq on the transom not like a k plane.on mine there was a circle spot in the boat here mine is now, I had one out side the bracket was adjustable the more its below the hull it will slow you down sometimes 2 to 3 mph. also mine was about a 12''or 18'' from the keel .
